As I am restarting poker after a break, absolutely love a challenge and have no reason to choose any particular game, I'm going to switch over to PLO. I honestly miss the post flop play that NLHE just does not offer compared to LHE. This is problem. Someone in another thread said that there are no stories of people grinding up to the mid stakes from micros in PLO so I am going to see if it is possible. I am virtually starting from scratch in PLO, my background is almost exclusively LHE with maybe a couple of hundred hands of micro PLO at best so I know the rules and not much more.

So here we go, armed with a BR of $250 and a CR subscription the story of busto to robusto (hopefully) playing PLO with denks begins.

Start: PLO10
Goal: PLO50 by the end of the year, PLO200 by March.
Due to study break and the way my work shifts are structured that gives me roughly 5.5 months of full time play to accomplish this
I will be using a very aggro BRM strategy of 20 BI for PLO10 and PLO25 and 30 BI for PLO50 and PLO100 and 50 BI for PLO200. I will drop down a level any session I start below these requirements (I used to use aggro BRM successfully in LHE so am quite comfortable dropping down one or even two levels if I have to without even the slightest feeling of regret).

I reaaaaally need to work on my discipline. I need a shock collar to make me think for more than 5 seconds on any pot larger than 20bb.

All of my horrible >20bb losing decisions have been made in a snap (and about 10% of my good >20bb winning decisions). If I cut those out my graph would be a giraffe instead of an M.

I think there is some merit in that thread about the guy hitting his head against the wall after a losing session.

lol...I was thinking of going back there to avenge my losses and this seems like a great opportunity. Seriously....you're crazy to just jump into those games with 25 buy-ins and a crappy training site subscription with a few hundred hands of PLO experience. At best you'll run hot to start and get off to a good run. Play much lower imo and work on your game or you'll go bust before you know. gl. Alternatively, let me know when you're playing and i'll pay you back x% on whatever you lose directly to me.

Maybe that sounds a bit harsh, but it's not as harsh as sitting into a high variance game with 25 buy-ins and little experience. Here's an old graph of mine from PLO10.

It'd be a shame to have that decision made for you. I'm a bit of a bankroll nit and I wasn't willing to play with much less than 50 buy-ins. I'm way over-rolled atm but i'd still not feel good about doing 25 buy-ins. Why would you not play lower to figure things out/build a roll before playing there? If you're any good you'd make more playing PLO2 than NL5 and more playing PLO5 than NL10.

Put in another early morning session of just over 1K hands before bed. Played pretty well for the most part and almost got super tilted by this fish but managed to regain my composure and just play on. Didn't end up restacking him but oh well... least it was another winning session.

Here's the hand just before the one which almost tilted me.

Hero wins $19.18

Sucked that the shorty behind had KK but that was irrelevant in the end. Only thing I was worried about was UTG coming over the top (being deepstacked too). I retrospect I probably could've popped it to $2.50 if I knew I was gonna fold to an UTG shove.

i just got hammered @10nl... won 47% of hands at showdown blahh

- lost jj in a 3bet pot vs 1 tabling fish as the flush came ott & shove less than the pot & he either made the flush or got there otr with a 10x with 1 of the suits ehh

- some idiot backraised shoved vs my kk thinking im squeezing light & hit a ace or had AA(didnt see just know i lost to an ace)

- 4-4-5 two toned flop & a 9 came ott & reg raised me & i thought he was repping too thinly so i flatted turn n half pot river & he showed nines full(sigh) + i was hijack so i probably folded there if i was utg ott but yea his flatting range is wider so f.u stars!

& some other pots i forgot about atm ehh... 2morrow in my session review ill post but god damn haven't had a horrible session where i felt helpless in like 2weeks so was hoping i was immune to them

To be honest, I just fold because we have to play 99 OOP in a 3bet pot, which is horrible. However 4betting is way better than calling a 3bet but if he shoves you have to call and I cant see you ever being better than flipping.

I had a bit of a gross PLO session, it started off with one brutal beat and then they started to keep coming. AAds vs AAxx all in pre and they'd make a full house. People 3betting crap and calling 4bets and hitting the miracle flop. A great one was when I flopped top set on a flush board and check called flop and turn (K of the suit) then I bet called the river when board paired and villain showed KKxx with the flopped flush. I did run well in one pot though which saved my session. Just up under 1 buy-in after 1300 hands. A bit of a more normal winrate after my recent run.

Such a sick beat to lose that way....I was kind of expecting to see K4 or 44.

i pretty much dont have a flatting range for 3bets out of position, although im toying with the idea of doing it more since regs play so s-forward in 3bet pots and tend to 3bet too light ip vs other regs

like if i flat fairly wide and c/jam a ton of flops with any sort of equity i don't think i'd do too badly

I did exactly that the other day on a A high board when I was 90% sure he most likely holding was KK/QQ. He still called with KK so I have decided not to try go mental in 3bet pots trying to blow people away.

In principle, it shouldn't be that bad a play vs light 3betters.

SB checks, Hero checks

Spoiler:
SB shows 8 J (Straight, Jack High) (Pre 29%, Flop 63%, Turn 67%)
Hero mucks 9 9 (Three of a Kind, Nines) (Pre 71%, Flop 37%, Turn 33%)
SB wins $8.39

Figure once that flush comes I'm screwed, better to check behind and try and fill up on the river. When that didn't happen and he flipped the str8 I couldn't help but feel a shove on the turn would've folded him out but this is being far too results oriented right?
