I decided to go for a late night session. I was doing quite well and up about 4 buy-ins, then I got involved in a pot where I lost 200bb, I obviously was on the bad side of the beat. Then I managed to bluff off a load of money and also ran bad in some spots finding myself down on the session after playing for hours. I kept going, got about 3k hands in and finished up about 2 buy-ins. 436VPP to go before end of year. Just need some more run good as this isn't really enough.

This is how I started off the session, flop seemed pretty huge but as it turned out my flush draw was bad. Down a buy-in

I decided not to 4bet my AAxx, flop seemed pretty good and I thought there was a chance villain had AAxx too so I got it in with my straight draw outs.

I decided to have another shot at building a bankroll after not playing in about 2 years. The previous 2 times I'd made deposit's ($20 each time) I grinded it up to about $150 before cashing out, and probably spent about 3 - 4 months in total on it.

I deposited $50 and started on NL2 but decided to have a shot at NL5 when my bankroll reached $57.50, then moved up to NL10 today when I hit $120. Also on top of the winnings on the graph, I've also earned $20 of my $50 first deposit bonus.

Since I'm off work at the moment I decided to play as much as I can. Here are my results since this Wednesday (Which is when I made my deposit):

Be careful playing 10NL on that BR. Be prepared to move back to 5NL if you lose a couple of buyins.

I decided not to really stick to my usual bankroll management so strictly at first... When I built a couple of bankrolls in the past (to about $150ish each time) I was doing fairly well at NL2 and NL5, and I expected NL10 would be the same (Which I've found it pretty much is). I'm planning to stick to at least 20 buyins or more before moving up from NL10 though because I expect from NL25 it'll get tougher... If I was to go on a big downswing though on NL10 I would move back down to NL5.

An xmas miracle! This game's too sick sometimes...so I started off the session playing a bit like a fish. Had some ok-ish spots to get it in but lost. I found myself down 3 buy-ins and was hating the game just wishing the VPP would fly by. I lost a 3way all in with AAds vs some crap hands and I was doubling up short stacks. I was near the end of my tether and decided I was just going to keep trying to play good hands and hopefully things would turn. Sure enough they did and I started running well. I also made a pretty sick call and after 2100 hands finished up 11 buy-ins. 270VPP to go.

This was a bit stupid. Probably could have folded pre-flop. I made an ambitious call on the flop as my flush might not be very good. I turned nut flush draw to go with my flush draw + had a gutshot and decided to get it in. 36% for me.

This villain was a bit of a fish, I think one of his hands is above (the one where i'm 99% to win) I really didn't think he had to have a set or straight on this board and with a set + flush draw I decided to get it in on turn. Probably could have done it on the flop and saved myself the hassle.

So annoying, I could have won villain's stack off him and it'd have been sweet but I was worried about getting freerolled by flush redraws and better straight draws so I just opted to pot control and call rather than shove. The one time it'd have been good to get it in. Not sure what happens if a or other scare card for me hits on river.

Villain was same as above. This was one of the sickest hands of the session. I hated the flop, I was deep and board was super wet. So many scare cards I didn't want to see but I decided to raise to try knock some of the hands out. The turn seemed even worse as it put yet another flush draw up there and it'd mean there was close to 50% chance a flush would complete on the river. So I decided to bet smallish to keep the lead. River wasn't great in some respects and I didn't want to bet - call so I opted to check. Villain fired close to pot and I felt sick. I thought about it and only hands which made sense were JJ/TT and JT was really the biggest possibility I concluded. I didn't expect to see JJ/TT and thought it was very possible to see JT so I called hoping it was a busted draw as there were a lot of draws on that flop/turn which missed. I just didn't know how often villain bluffs in these spots.

The xmas miracle is still alive! I started off the session down a little, but then won a big pot which put me up. The run good kept going and I was up about 7 buy-ins. Then I played one hand bad and ran bad in some other spots and dropped 4 buy-ins back. Kept grinding as i'm trying to get my VPP and I started running better and I made a donkish play which turned out to be good. 2800 hands +8 and a bit buy-ins <100 VPP to go till I get my stellar and pretty much recovered my losses from that horrible ~20k hand stretch I had.

BOOM! Some sick run good. I saw that flop and thought I was going to lose. I was pretty happy to win this one.

I was a bit tilted with this villain, they hit and ran me yesterday in a big pot when they ran good. So I was factoring that into my decision to play the hand. I decided to play my draw pretty aggressively on the flop. Nut flush draw + a gutshot. 54% to win the hand.

I'm not so happy about this hand. I hate to 4bet from OOP and with a bad aces but thought I might be able to get in a lot pre-flop or even stack off. It didn't turn out that way and flop was nasty. I was going to fold to any bet really. Turn brought the flush and I had nut blocker and I decided to fire. I was trying to fire an amount I could fold but there really wasn't an amount. I found myself committed on the river and have to call just in case. The run bad started after this.

I really thought villain had KKxx after the check raise. I didn't think two pair hands would be playing it like this. The turn was pretty good in so far as I didn't have to worry about flush/straights but villain fired again. The river brought the K and it really made the one hand I was thinking villain had (KK) that bit less likely. I guess KQ/K8 is possible but I don't think they check-raise that flop. So I made a "meh, if villain's got quads nh" call.

Not sure what my BR is (in terms of how to classify it), i've cashed out a few times. Sold over £1k worth of amazon vouchers at 90% or slightly over, pulled out close to $1k when I was feeling tilted. Currently have about $1170 in my account.

Not sure about moving up, i'm thinking of what to do with poker. Take a break / play another site / move up / keep grinding / play something different. Sometimes I just hate the game and the swings involved. I have about 90VPP left and i'll be done for the year and then not sure what happens next.

Finally got it.

I had a session today, ran pretty damn hot tbh. One hand I played annoyed me as it was some fancy play **** which backfired on me and I lost a bit of value in a few spots being a nit and scared of straight flushes Still....1650 hands +7 buy-ins and got my $50 stellar bonus. I'm done for the year as I don't want to pay rake for nothing now.

I decided to call with my double suited/run down sort of hand. Flop was pretty decent for me, wasn't happy about potential flush draws but I got it in anyway. 43% for me, I had a feeling the run good was going to continue.

This was a tough one.....I wasn't paying a lot of attention to what was going on in the hand as I was at a lot of tables. I had middle set in a 3bet pot and knew it was possible someone could have KK/JT. I really tanked and was thinking about folding or just calling. I decided with middle set I could get it in and still have my gutshot so I shoved. I was pretty happy to not see JT/KK and just hoped i'd be rewarded for making a +EV play.

****, I hate tournaments.....never going to play them again. Haven't played any poker at all, just logged in for the $100k freeroll, would have been nice to win $15k on NYE (that's not going to happen.) On the bright side I busted early so not going to waste my time doing that. Not sure what i'm doing with poker in 2012, I can't work out if the Stars rake changes will be good or bad for me and if I can be bothered to play poker.

This just about sums up my tournament. Get no action with QQ/AA/AK.

I open 2.5x from UTG+1, obviously calling the all in from short stack hoping I don't get shown AK. I'm pleased to see i'm ahead and then I get ****ed over as usual in these things. Next hand I pick up AA UTG, raise 10BB to try look tilty and get no action.

Sitting shortish now and needing to make some moves soon. I had 55 a few hands before which i'd folded to an open from someone in fairly EP. I was deliberating shoving the 55, didn't think I could call but didn't fancy flipping at best if my shove gets called. Picked up A7o from CO, i'm short, it's one of the better hands i've seen and shove it only to run into a better A and miss. gg me and that's poker in 2011 done for me. Wish they did a bonus I could take or some alternative to playing the freeroll. I'm clearly **** and they're luck ridden things. Maybe one day i'll hit 4 figs in one of them eventually.

I honestly don't know how it affects me. I haven't got tracking programs but from what i'm hearing i'm probably going to be worse off. I don't play like a complete nit, i'm playing around 20% of flops but it's probably not LAG enough to take advantage of the changes. It's pretty sickening how a $30 pot at PLO5 gets raked more than a $50k pot at $50/100 and it kinda pisses me off.

I've been thinking about going to microgaming and getting 50% rakeback (but been hearing some not so great stuff) and then there's ipoker, maybe get 60% rakeback? Or I stick with Stars and get involved with the protest and hope they move towards WTA or lower the rake. All I know is it's kind of ugly paying over $4k in rake and being up a little over $700 (according to PTR tracking.) Not sure how much poker i'll be playing or if i'll take a break. I actually feel in the mood for it now but I want to see what happens with the rake first before I start clearing VPPs and get tracked into clearing bonuses/FPPs/gold or platinum star.

My PTR graph - went on a pretty sick upswing, was grinding PLO2 and tried a bit of NL5 when I was down at the valley. As things got back to break-even I went back to PLO5 and that went well so went to PLO10. Made about 40 buy-ins pretty fast but had some big swings along the way. Recently it's just been PLO5 so a bit more stable.

BUMP! No idea what page this went to A few tilting things going on. I started speaking to someone at PLO5 table and we exchanged email. I sent them some stuff i'd typed up for advice on how to beat the games etc. and we discussed a few things and I gave some general PLO help (for free out of the goodness of my heart I add.) Then sent some more mails and no reply for days when they were replying really fast previously when I was helping. They've been running pretty damn hot as they won about 27 buy-ins at PLO10 over the space of <4k hands. I did eventually get a reply when I sat at their table and asked if they received

As for me: I played for the first time this year, put on my lucky shirt. Went to PLO10 as that guy seemed to crush it and maybe it's softer. Didn't run amazingly well, nothing special really. Got dealt AAxx tons of times and missed flops, stacked off a few times to shortish stacks which as usual worked out pretty badly. I was up a little bit, then went down about $15, finished down about $6. Stopped the session for the reason below rather than trying to get to even/profit.

Now here's the important bit: If you may recall, when I was playing PLO5 over about 2k hands I was making around 150VPP. Sometimes less but usually more than 100VPP. I played 1800 hands today at double the stakes and made 71VPP. I know I joke that i'm a nit, but i'm still playing about 20% of hands so i'm not sitting there folding everything. So it'd appear the changes are going to affect me for the negative and with the high level of rake and now i'm getting lower VPP too, i'm not playing stars until they do something to compensate the players especially at the micros.

A few of my hands:

Decided to get it in on the flop with top 2 + gutshot draw. I knew it was going to be close to a flip so was just hoping to hold.

Another AAxx hand which did work out. No idea what villain's really up to.

Maybe I need to find better games to play in, but the action in general wasn't great and it just feels a bit of a waste of time. I prefer PLO5.

lol...so after what I said. I was feeling in the mood for playing poker and down a little on the day (nothing I cared about) so just fired up some PLO2. I was looking down the lobby at PLO5/10 games licking my lips at how deep some of the games were but i'm not in the mood for paying tons of rake when i'm probably going to leave Stars. My god PLO2's still so soft . Let's see....lower rake [x] soft players [x] low variance [x]. I ran pretty well too tbh, won about 6 buy-ins in 900 hands. More worthwhile than playing PLO10, but I think other sites are like this but at higher stakes which justifies my reasons for leaving. Made 15VPP playing about 25% of my hands.

This villain was raising a lot pre-flop, just decided to call pre-flop. I called flop with nut flush blocker, backdoor flush draw and overpair expecting him to cbet most flops anyway. I hit a good turn and got it in and dodged the outs. I seem to run better when I play lower for some reason

lol...look how passively villain plays their hand. Bottom set + nut flush draw and they're check calling. I couldn't think of many worse hands that would call the river and I didn't want to get called by a running flush so checked behind.

Raised this hand pre-flop in position and decided to take a flop. I kind of put them on AAxx/KKxx but I guess as I have blockers it's slightly less likely. As I flopped nut flush draw I called the flop cbet. I turned a pair and as I put them on an overpair I decided to get it in with my top pair + flush draw in surprisingly good shape. 70% for me to win.

Decided to bet flop, I expected someone to have a Q as so many of us went to flop. Strangely no-one raised so I fired turn again. It's a min-raise and i'm not in great shape vs AQ/44/Q8 but I had some outs to took a river. No idea why villain decides to ship it on the river, definitely a PLO2 mistake. Maybe they think I rivered straight but it'd be a terrible river to value bet given action.
