Sick swings in the turbos.. I had a long breakeven stretch that I snapped out of by having like an 80% ROI over 150 games or so. Just keep grinding away.

I played live poker for the first time in my life today. Granted i only played for an hour but i dont understand why people say its so profitable when the rake and tip are so ridiculous. Maybe its because i was playing on one of those bad beat jackpot tables but the rake was just crazy. I ended up winning 2 bucks after an hour but i probably wont be playing much live after that.

you are doing it wrong. stack your tables. why do you even look if you won or not? you put the $$$ in the middle most of the time good or just spite some regbastard on the bubble who pushed 5 times bvb.
after you pushed or called you know what you are doing when you stack? you move on. cause you have 23 more tables that need your UNDIVIDED attention. and hopefully after 5k sngs luck evens out and you have a positive roi or just be a rakeback bitch

Solution: Don't play at a casino with a bad rake structure and don't tip every time you win a pot. Also you realize you're basing an opinion off like a 40 hand (MAYBE) sample size?

When I play live poker I don't find it profitable mainly because it's so slow. Average of 35 hands/hour? That's like 5 minutes worth of hands for me online when I'm multitabling. When people always spout off about sample size when someone posts about variance in a topic, it would take years for someone to get a good sample size in live play even though it is softer.
04-04-2011 , 05:40 AM
Yes you can't get a large sample size to figure out your winrate but forming an opinion on just about anything based off only an hour of experience is flawed.
04-04-2011 , 06:05 AM
Marklarz, congrats on the win!

I know what I'm doing - Trust me

I do care if I win money or not - since it determines if I'm going to continue playing or just stop for the day.

I only play 10-12 tables @ a time - Even though I can 24+ table pretty easily - I just find I play alot better when I have 10-12 tables.

I mean the game was reasonably soft. A couple of nits, a few "reg TAGs" and then mostly loose passive players who limp alot. It was definitely a beatable game, i just dont like the rake and the tip. Those guys were tipping after every pot. That appeared to be the standard at the table. I didn't want to look like a douche if i was the only one who didn't tip the dealer a buck after winning a whopping 12 dollar pot.

The $1.50 + 0.25 18 man turbos.

Is it just me or does the rake seem to really crush your winrate?
04-04-2011 , 01:26 PM
I thank the poker gods for coolers.. or I'd be down today... playing god awful, really glad I hopped down levels to shake some rust.

and letting the results of that random number generator determine whether you continue.

it won't help. Of course this fact will keep decent competition away so they might be pretty soft.

I played a ton of hands and I ran like the old masq. I wasn't fortunate in some spots and ran into some annoying setups. I did play one or two hands badly one of which was I was a bit tilted by this huge nit at my table who was running amazing against me. I picked up AKKTds and I raised and the SB (not the nit) 3bet and we ended up getting it all in pre. I don't usually do this with KKxx but I figured I had an A making AAxx a bit less likely. But of course they had AAxxsss holding my suit and I lost a buy-in feeling a bit stupid. I was stuck a few buy-ins, then up a little then back down a few. I did start to run a bit better and hit some royal flushes which didn't really get paid off and some of my hands started to hit and hold. After 2100 hands finished +$8.

This hand tilted me. I had a good feeling villain didn't flop the nuts and was most likely calling with some hand like AKxx. I fired river as a bluff hoping I could get them to fold

PS RnG Turns me On

Regarding the $1.75's - The rake sucks - but the players are even worst - so you'll easily be able to beat the $1.75's.

The rake @ the $3.40's is crap as well - Will be moving to the $6.50's when I'm happy with where I'm at.

@cha4zz

10NL Rush > Me - I gave up playing.

rush just seems like a nightmare as u move up. 5nl has the most players and is the fishiest, then beyond that the player pool shrinks and shrinks.
04-04-2011 , 06:12 PM
weee new thread!!! I started my job today so my grinding time has been significantly reduced. I did ship 2nd place in the $25 2+2 marchmadness pool for $150 so i can comfortably play 25NL. dont think i can 24 table yes but will def be playing 20 tonight for at least an hour

unsure of realistic goals with this new job and most likely an active weekend social life so i'll wait and see
