Has anyone tried tournaments where the goal wasn't last man standing but who knocks the most players out?
I have never played a tournament so I'm not pretending to know what I'm talking about, but it seems like it'd have some advantages:
--The biggest is that it'd probably take half the time for the same number of players because being aggressive is even more rewarded
--Early aggression is big because players have less chips and knocking out the final players is going to be much much harder
--People would be much more likely to call all-ins
--The bubble is different and people can't sit out until they're in the money
--Even if you're on the bubble the goal is to be aggressive
--Sandbagging gains nothing
--If desired, the poker room could run the tournament for a set period of time and whoever has the most bounties at a certain time wins. This would make it easier to schedule dealers and the players would also know they're gonna be out by a certain time
--The blinds may not even need to increase (or could do so more gradually) so the strategy wouldn't change as much deep in the tournament
The con is that the payment structure probably has to be done by a computer, because if a bunch of people tie with 4-6 bounties (I'm thinking like a 50 person tournament) it'd be different than if one person had a score 10-15 bounties.
And it'd also ruin it as a spectator sport because the winner might not even be at the final table.
