How do you calculate the value of a bounty when calling all-in?

Ex. 9 players, $40 for 2000 chips + $10 bounty. 2 places pay. 4 players left.

Villain shoves all in on the flop. I have an open end straight draw. It cost me 1500 chips to call a 2300 pot. I have villain covered. I will be wounded but not crippled with a loss. Without the bounty I do not have pot odds to make the call. Does the bounty give me the odds I need?

If its very early in the tournament I would value the bounty at 500 chips since $40 buys 2000. Later in he tournament the value of chips changes. What chip value would you give the bounty at a mid stage of the tournament. What information would you be looking for to make the calculation?

cheers,

I personally believe that it is not worth the call if you do not have the odds. I would much rather play patient and make the money than risk my chips trying to pick up a $10 bounty

You need to estimate/calculate 4 things:

1 - your tournament equity($) if you call and win
2 - Your tournament equity($) if you call and lose
3 - Your pot equity(%) vs. his range
4 - Your tournament equity($) if you fold

To make the call +EV you you would need the following equation to be true

(1*3)+($10*3)-(2*3) > 4

This may be wrong, but I never calculate the bounty into my call. I base my call on pot odds and reads. This may be completely off base at big buy in tournaments where knocking out a pro can mean $5000, but I pay micros/low so Im nowhere close to worried about that yet.

I usually do not take into account bounty, it throws off my play. I play knockout tourneys like I would play normal tourneys.

Maybe.
You would add the bounty to your 'call and win' tournament dollar equity which should be accurate enough. Figuring out future knockout equity for both 'call and win' and 'fold' may get tricky beyond a ballpark guesstimate.

I'll think about it.
But I would guess your tournament prizepool equity would increasingly dominate your decisionmaking. I wouldn't give the bounty a chip value at all or really worry about it, the prize pool in your example is $360 + $40 and you will have say $125 of equity, it doesn' take much of a hit if you lose to blow more than the ten bucks you were trying for.

If you have an OK+ positive expectation in the tourney anyway, you will often stand to lose way more when you lose than the bounty+chips you get when you win. But it's somewhat situation-dependent.
