I'm James. 27 years old and live close-ish to London.

I've played poker for about the last 6 years. I won enough money to put myself through Uni about 4 years ago and thought I was the muts nuts - then I kissed goodbye to the glory days of Party and realised I sucked.

Now I'm grinding 5nl/10nl on stars and realising i'm much better than I used to be, but I still suck.

Bloody good thread yeah.

Excellent. My daughter was born in ManchVegas, as it's affectionately known, lived there for a few years. I hear a LOT has changed.

Did you know that Manchester, NH has the longest street in the world that's capped at both ends by dead ends? Completely useless nfo, I know, but...

About a year ago my wife was out of town with our kids for the weekend and I was bored out of my mind, started looking for something to do, so i figured I would play some cards online, I never knew there was such a huge online poker community

Long story short, after that weekend I deposited on UB played like a donkeyfish and busted my roll about 10 times ( only $30 each time ) I was hooked on beating the game, so I opened accounts on all the other sites and started playing as much as I could, now I play about 3-4 hours at night when my kid's and wife are sleeping, all micros.

i live in concord nh, small world

QFT!!

I'm James - 35, living in Tasmania (the small island south of the Australian continent) with wife and 2 kids. I first went to Uni straight out of school and did a combined degree in law and biochemistry. Mucked around for a couple of years, then did my Bar entrance course. Worked for a year in litigation and didn't like it, so went back to Uni and did a degree in economics. Since then I've worked for my state government's Treasury.

I was taught the basics of poker and blackjack at age 5 by my grandfather, and have always enjoyed card games ever since. While a student I worked as a croupier and supervisor at the local casino, dealing blackjack, roulette and baccarat. During this time I played 5 card stud, as it was the game that the croupiers here played at card nights (before the NLHE boom). I never got into online NLHE during this time, don't know why - partly because I didn't understand NLHE very well and partly because I didn't realise uNL existed (I kinda figured it'd be similar stakes to a casino, 2/5 etc).

ANyhoo, I was surfing the net about 6 months ago and found 2+2, and saw one of those "build a BR from $40 to $1000" threads (maybe Icewolf's?). Started reading stickies, took the plunge and deposited $40. Ran that up to $75 at 2NL, took shots at 5NL, outlevelled myself and dropped back, ground up again and started at 5NL again - got to about $100. Then won a home game donkament for about $250, played at the local $2.50/$5 casino game for fun, lost a bit, deposited the rest and started playing at 10NL. Ran horrible, donked off 8BIs in ~4000 hands and dropped back to 5NL. I've now started playing PLO too at the 0.01/0.02 level after having read Hwang's book, kinda a fun diversion from NLHE.

Currently on holidays in the subtropics, kids are with their grandparents. Sitting by the pool playing 5NL, down 1BI thanks to a set-over-set, but it's warm and sunny so life's not all bad...

Im Nathan, 27, from Sydney, Australia.
I started playing poker around 3 years ago just donking around on the party poker play money tables. I started entering party's play money tournaments, managed to final table one so i decided to deposit. It didnt go as well as id expected.
I joined PKR and deposited there, and somehow managed to run my $50 into ~$1800 by playing sit n gos and tournaments. Decided to try cash one night while drunk (400NL) and promptly lost $800 of my hard earned bankroll. So i went back to sit n gos and started losing bad, managed to cash out like $600 or so, donked the rest off.
I joined Full Tilt a little over a year ago, played mostly MTTs , re deposited like 5 times or so before deciding to try and learn cash. I jumped straight into 5NL and lost pretty badly. Redeposited, started playing 2NL and finally figured out how to play. I beat 2NL for 3.5bb/100 over 80k hands and have now moved to 5NL last week and seem to be doing ok so far. I hope to be at 50NL by the end of the year.

David, 24

I went to The College of New Jersey for History/Secondary Education and am a NJ certified social studies secondary education teacher (sorry if that's scary for any parents out there, lol).

I'm currently attending Rutgers Law School in Newark New Jersey.

I played 5 card draw and such for spare change with my family when I was fairly young. Didn't give it a second thought. My freshman year of college at a frat party I was invited upstairs to play and was introduced to Holdem. I lost $10.

I played a lot of dorm games after that and I won some money from them ..... I started playing online at pokerroom and I must have lost about $1K. I remember playing 2 sng's at a time and a suitemate of mine saying he never even thought of that (lol, memories) ..... and I would move up and w/e ..... no concept of bankroll management.

Gave it up for a while, joined a frat and such, actually made some money just playing around on campus .... then a guy who joined a semester after me ... he played at Stars and I started talking to him about it and I decided to play at the same site he played at which was PokerStars ..... and he also introduced me to 2+2. Basically August 2005 I decided to quit my summer jobs and I moved into the house I was gonna move into anyway when school started (though I missed some really fun times in the 6 weeks before according to the other guys living in the house ... which to this day I wish I had been there for but w/e, not too big a thing). Mid-September I decided I was taking this poker thing seriously and trying to make it a job and make $. I started off 4 tabling $11 regular sng's.

Lots of stuff happened ...........................

(Moved to cash eventually and it took a while and 2+2 was instrumental to what I achieved.)

I graduated college May 07 and from then till August 08 I had no job and no school. I was lazy though ... played poker only about 15 hours week .... made about $35K. I did rent a room in a house only about 5 minutes away from my girlfriend who was a senior in college at the time and is now my fiancee ... and a lot of my friends were very close and the frat I was in during college was right there (some crossover) and it was a great year ... probably my favorite. Wasn't bad at all.

Started law school .... doing that now and trying to get in poker to make $.

I'm getting married June 19th.

I got word that tomorrow campus is closed which is why I am awake now.

And I can't think of what else to say though I know I left a bunch out.

Not at all a bad plan IMO as long as you can send a PM and have time to receive one before you go (and don't mind trading cell #'s or something). I like free drinks.

Hello!

I'm John. Been playing on and off for aprox. two years now (probably just one year if you put it all together), and I still feel like a newbie. Cashed in a couple of freerolls on PartyPoker and had one minimum buyin ($0.40) to $0.01/$0.02 (wich I see other people calling "2NL"). So, I started playing. After 80 hands or so I had worked myself up to $1.04. But then, I ran into a brick wall, nose first. I had QQ, and hit a set on the flop. But some ... had flopped a flush and decided to slowplay it. Long story short, he sprung his trap on me and took away my $1.04. Yet again, I am broke at PartyPoker.

On PokerStars on the other hand, pardon the pun, I have $118.93. Going way better there, seeing as I started out with only $14.17.

EDIT: I do know that entering a game with only 20 BB was a mistake from the beginning. I should have waited until I had 300 or something.

Hey my first post.
I'm John and I feel like the old guy at 41. I played funny money games on stars because I couldn't deposit money. Then Stars gave me $5 gift and I donked it in a cash game. THEN they gave me another $5 a few months later and I donked it to 1.40. So I started playing .25 SNG in Dec. and I got it up to $20.
My plan is to build it up and move up.
I'm a computer programmer by day

I posted this in one of those threads a while back, since my poker schedule has changed a bit.

My name is GGK and in1979 I was 6/7, my grandfather taught me,lol(miss him)

He used words like "Big bank take little bank" He said cool names like, Puggy and Amarillo. Said ante up and called people sheep. It was cool...we played every kind he would teach me.(I crush 5card draw)

about 89-90 I was playing in my home town. nothing big but killing most everyone at .5/$1.00 and 1/2 (still got a soft seat in one of those games today)

I play anything up to 1/2 on the internet and up 2$/$4 live.

I didn't jump into the internet boom until later.I didn't trust it. Plus with my soft games, new Family, and work, it kinda was cool.

I feel like I'm on the generation gap of Grumpy ole pro's and the young internet Pro's... an I'm glad. I feel the older gen has no respect or willingness to learn from the up and coming internet Pro's.
While the younger generation thinks Poker has evolved beyond the ole guys comprehension.
I will take all info from all great sources. It is just not smart, to not get as much out of the game as you can.

Best advice from Grandpa:
Position, and big bank take lil bank. He showed me BRM early.
Lastly he told me, I didn't have anything to "prove" just stack chips boy, that's all they are chips...just chips

Peace

Well since then I have had a change of

I'm gonna go for it...I am playing in the Sunday Millions the Warm up the 1/4 million A Few Nightly Hundred grands and any special tournament that pays big.(guarantees mostly.)
7 or 9 tournaments a week.Nothing to make it an over load... 3 1 day, 2 another etc
Play about 2 or3 sessions a week of the Hi Lo game of choice 100nl.
And it isn't gonna be grinding. I want to win,and will play too. If I lose...I don't care,The next tourney my KK will hold.

It's gonna be fun and no stress. If I lose I lose but I'm covered for a full year so I'm gonna give it a year run and see what happens.
It's also a HUGE comfort to be free to open up and play again.
Wish me that L word I don't believe in
I am rolled for the year and my wife said go for it...so I am!

Peace,
GGK

Hey Guys,

I'm Rob, 29, from just outside Brighton in the south of the UK.

I've been playing poker for a very long time, and started with my Dad with 7 stud when I was a kid. I got turned onto Hold 'Em by the 1st series of Late Night Poker on TV, and I've been playing on and off ever since.

I started on Blue Square Poker, before it was a member of the iPoker network, and did really well in SnGs, and cash, but only really casually. When BSq joined the Ipoker network, the feel of the place changed, and the winning strats i was used to using just didn't work anymore.

Moved to party, and again made a small profit, playing fairly few games, but tended to blow my BR by playing drunk (Kids, this is a very BAD IDEA!). I got all of thr HoH books, nd using them, and this place (I lurked long before i ever posted), I think I developed a pretty good game, at least compared to the guys i tend to play home games with.
I started playing online again in late 2009, and I'm actually going to take it a bit more seriously. I'm currenty unemployed, but have a financial company head hunting me to set up thier UK business atm, so the amount of time I can play atm may soon be a thing of the past.

I'm currently on Stars, and play in the weekly Shanoobs Euro game. I will win at least 1 of the months in this years Ironman comp, or I will probably give up on poker...

Any questions or drink requests, please PM me, or just abuse me on the forums, I'm here a lot atm!
