My name's Tom, I moved to Lima, Peru almost 4 years ago for a girl. I'm 35 years old. I'm from Pittsburgh originally. I have played online poker off and on since about 2006. I've read numerous poker texts but have not really spent time at the tables. I have never been able to play long hours due to a hectic work schedule (freelance software developer) and girlfriend demands. Well we broke up a few weeks ago and I find myself back at the virtual poker tables with my new found freedom. I just donked off 2 small $10 buy-ins the past couple nights on NL10 RUSH and realized I need some work at the Poker Stars 1c/2c. I also have access to a few casinos here in Lima that spread ~$0.75/$1.80 (2/5 in local currency) and have multiple rebuy/add-on donkaments that I abhor. Smoking is not only permitted but encouraged so I don't really go to these casinos very often.

If any 2+2ers every find themselves in Lima while waiting to see Machu Picchu I'll be happy to show you around and you can buy me a Pisco Sour.

Hello all. I'm Jay, I'm 35 and live in South Florida. I've been playing on and off for years; lurking here on 2+2 at the same time. Casual player, never really won or lost big, and I am looking to get better. I've never had much luck with NL, so I've been focusing on limit games, especially the 7 card stud varieties.

Andy - age 36. Living in Delaware with my wife and 2 kids. In 2004 the Phillies collapsed late in the season, and while looking for something interesting to watch, I came across the WSOP and WPT. I had been to the AC casinos a lot when I was in my 20s, and after going busto with the Martingale system, I read a few books on gambling theory, learned about EV and how to count cards. Once I interviewed for a job teaching SAT prep, and had to teach a sample 5 minute lesson to the other applicants. I taught the mathematics of roulette, and explained EV and the casino edge. Anyway, when I started playing poker my first stop was the bookstore, where I found SSHE, which led me to the forums.

In 2005 I decided to quit my dissertation in English (got my Masters at USC in 1999, btw) and go into law. During the transition I lived the 1/2 limit pro dream - even though I was playing on dial-up and my computer could barely handle 4 tables without crashing, I was able to pay myself $10/hour and build my roll. Moved up to 2/4, and then made the move to 50NL and $11 SNGs. Then between getting a real job, starting law school, and the UIGEA hitting, I figured my run was over and cashed in. I kept lurking in the forums though, and pwned the play money tables at Party from time to time. Then in the fall of 2008, I decided to deposit $300, worked my way up to 50NL, and cashed down to 10NL at Christmas time. Didn't get much volume in during 2009, but I started participating in the forums a lot more and was able to get my roll up to $800 before cashing down again at Christmas. Now I am on Cake, playing mostly 10NL, but since this is my last semester of law school, and I am prepping for the bar, I am not really playing much anymore. I am psyched though that table games have been legalized in Philly and Delaware and live poker should be up and running by the end of the year. So soon enough I will probably be more or less a live player, keeping a small roll online for kicks.

Now whenever anyone travels, just look at the thread, see who's in that area, and demand that they buy you a drink.

This is my plan at least.

Hi,

My name is Jason, 25 years old, an idiot from northern europe. I have been playing casual for 4 years now mostly live at first but now moving over to online I play PS and UB and I am not very good as you can probably tell from my posts. I work in a office as an architect tech. and just got a promotion to office IT manager/in-house web design consultant or something like that very exciting.

In my area there is only 2 casino's/cardrooms so I have the chance to play with the same players every weekend. I played on FTP for like 2 weeks, didnt like the software plus I didnt get rakeback (SN = Dynamo Dazzler) so I just played live at weekends made a over 6k. I have many many poker books that I flick through from time to time but I am willing and hoping to sell them at some point.

I wanted to play online serious this time around as I cant always make the big games live (sometimes they play weeknights that run into the small hours of the morning) due to work and GF commitments (sucks). Made the move to PS and UB with HM and dropped down a bunch of levels from my live game and I have recently cashed out $300 of my BR as I was going on tilt as seen in this thread

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/69...-right-695320/

I have now rebuilt my BR on both sites.

My choice of bar. We're not going to anywhere on the strip, that's for sure.

Plus remember if there's a Beginners Forum meetup at my house for WSOP, there's pie for all.

Danny, 32, London, although I am actually from Lancaster which is north-west England.

Played for a few years now, flitting between limit, SNG's and NL at various levels, no higher than 50nl. Had dreams of being superstar rich awesome when starting at teh poker, but had the realisation it's not easy so now I enjoy playing for fun (mostly ) a few hours a week.

Used to play uber drunk all the time, until I lost every cent I had online in one eventful monkey-drunky-evening, so in February deposited $50 on Stars to build that up.

Now, the only game you'll actually catch me drinking at is SHANOOBIGANS, beginner-bankroll-and-player-friendly NL and MHE tournies on Stars every Saturday. New players are always very welcome. Also, check out the Weekly Forum Games Thread stickied up top for SHENANIGANS and the odd impromptu cash game. These are a great way to meet a few of the posters from the forums or just a chance to play a fun game away from teh serious grind!

February's current game of choice for me is SNG's/DoN's between $1 and $5 buy-in, interspersed by the odd 6max cash game at 10nl.

Jon - Mid 40's (and dismayed to discover I'm apparently the oldest one here)

Originally from the UK, moved to NYC area 20 years ago when I got a job programming computers in an obscure language that even then was hopelessly antiquated. I only expected the job to last a year or two, but it stretched to 13 years!

I was unemployed when the Moneymaker poker boom happened, so I had way too much time on my hands and I played play chips and every freeroll I could find. The only time I had any noticeable Real Money what when I traded some play chips for a few dollars (less than 10) and ran it up to nearly $100. For a day or two I had fantasies of turning pro, but the realization that even when I was running good, I was still only making a couple of bucks an hour - and the fact that I soon went busto - put a stop to that dream.

Once I became gainfully employed again, I hardly played at all, until last summer (play chips and freerolls still). It was about then that I was reading a political web site (www.fivethirtyeight.com) and someone mentioned that Nate Silver was a poster at this poker forum 2+2. So knowing how big of a stats geek Nate is (political polling and baseball), I decided to head over here and see what Nate had to say about poker. I don't think I ever did find any of his posts, but I started reading and began to discover how much I didn't know about poker!

Shortly after that, PokerStars gave me $2 free, and that rekindled the fantasy of building a BR without ever depositing. I managed to not lose it, but playing scared when you're not even rolled for 2NL, isn't really that much fun. I was up and down, until I had $1.65 one Saturday morning when bumblebee99 offered to stake busto noobs in SHANOOBIGANS. I managed to cash in that, and a couple more times in the next few weeks - enough to buy in to SHANOOBIGANS for a few more weeks. Then along came the Fish Fry tournies. The buy in for those was more than my dignity would allow me to beg for a stake, so I finally deposited $20.

My current attitude towards poker is that I'm a recreational player that plays for fun - play money, freerolls, 10c and 25c MTTs and SnGs which makes SHANOOBIGANS high stakes for me - and I don't mind if I don't win, as long as I don't lose too much. I will continue to read and learn here with the aim of starting to not lose.

My name is Simon, I'm 33 and I live in Gosport in southern England.

I've been playing poker for about 3 years. I started playing though Facebook when they had a link to a site called Pureplay. I used to play regularly in a 500 man MTT freeroll and became a little obsessed with winning one after making the FT about 10 times. I only had a basic understanding of the game but when I finally won a MTT I mentioned poker at work to a few people and found that I was working with some pretty capable players. One has won several K playing live but has BRM issue's and the other plays 50nl and is taking shot's at 100nl. After discussing the game, playing in lunch break's and discovering how much I still had to learn about poker I was persuaded to start playing on Pokerstars and after some time flapping around on the play money tables I finally took the plunge and deposited. After slowly burning through my first two deposit's (£60) playing STT and MTT's. I found 2+2 and soon after made the decision to start taking poker more seriously and making the move to cash games. I have been bumbling around on Stars for over a year but have only had PT3 for a couple of months, am now super nit rolled for 10nl but am stuck at 5nl as I have recently come through a 5 BI downswing so am looking to take another shot soon after rebuilding roll and confidence.

Also revisited my MTT roots and played a couple of recent Shanniobiggans (or whatever it's called this week) Bubbling in my first attempt... I would recommend these to all newcomers to 2+2 as they are good fun games. The additional bounties make it a win/win if you stack the right people....

Hi,
I'm Chris, 23, currently in aerospace engineering at Virginia Tech. Been playing off and on for about 7 years. I used to grind .10/.25NL on Stars around 2 years ago until school took over and I cashed out my roll since I didnt have the time or motivation to play. Picked it back up last fall when I found $0.70 in my stars account. Right now I'm grinding $0.10/360's and $0.25/90's when I have the time. I've dropped too much money online to want to deposit again, just trying to look at it as a hobby/challenge right now and see where it goes. Been trying to read as much of the stickies and anthology threads as possible but with the work I'm doing now reading is that last thing I want to do when i get home. Right now, when i have the time, I'm going to try to be active on here at least with updates in the build a BR thread and will hopefully keep up with getting through all the sticky threads.

from Somerset UK

cliffs at bottom

Worked for a subscription firm that handled a new gambling magazine. Saw Pokerroom advert and joined playing 25c LHE (lowest limit they had) with $70 up to $220 down to $20 reading WLLH 2nd ed but playing much tighter. Sat down at my first NLH table and got up in less than 1 orbit because I knew I didn't have a clue.Bought Super/System read Sklansky/Brunson's hilo split chapter and they made it sound juicy, ordered Zees split-pot book where he said that pl08 was dying (written pre-internet obv) because the fish lost too fast. So switched to Party played PLO825 (skill-less nut-peddling with a double-digit ptbb/100) and PLO8 SNG and got up to $1k pretty quick. Posted on Pokah and joined a splinter that was dissatisfied with PokerRoom's forum modding. With their help (one guy that sticks out was called haphazard01, the implied odds light bulb finally went on) worked out exactly why I was winning at PLO8 and how no-limit holdem was susceptible to the same strategies. Whored PR/Ongame/bwin skins for >100% rakeback while beating NL25 (skill-less post-flop nut-peddling with a double-digit ptbb/100 again)

Then I found 2+2. Of course my first post was a should I go pro' thread hung around microstakes NL while still playing 15/2 or whatever. Have gone through stages of PLO rebuys, PLO8/7S MTT, stumbled on turbo 45-mans last May and generally played them since but will play whatever for fun. I am a recreational player but at least I win Apart from temporaries for reloads I will never put a fresh penny online but keeping it a hobby was and is life+ev.

I will be 40 before the WSOP and am flying over for (probably) the $1500 PLO8

cliffs: is not very good but wins small amounts of money anyway
