I was playing in my local poker room and I opened for a raise of £5. I was distracted and had a couple of callers and when the last one called I asked who’s it on and in error I said Check. The action was already closed. We proceeded to the flop and every one checked and I put in a bet for £15. The small blind then objected and said I checked and I was confused until I realised he meant before the flop was dealt.

Does my pre flop check stand as action was closed?

Does my action constitute a pre flop error?

Does the fact I wasn’t first to act change things as if I was first to act ‘check in the dark’ can come into play?

Room dependent, but OOT action can be ruled binding if the action doesn't change to you. So if they ruled you checked dark and nobody bet then yes your check stands.

Yes, it depend on the room. But you probably could have saved yourself even after saying check if you immediately realized your mistake and said something like "oops, I thought the action was on me again, never mind!".
