Hi recently been attempting to build a bankroll from 50 dollars on pokerstars, was just playing the 45 man 0.50 turbo sngs and got it up to around 85 very quickly as this is what I used to play a few years back as a fun passtime (took a little poker break now want to get a little more serious with the amount of time on my hands). I decided to go for the regular speed 1 dollar 45 mans as a way to get rid of a little variance from the turbos, started off okay but just had a run of around 15 with no cashes a good chunk of them flipping for the chip lead just before final table(turbo habits maybe). Not sure what I should be playing consistently to grind my bankroll up with such a small bankroll to start with, are the single table sngs better?

I dont want to move to cash games i much prefer tourneys.

Sounds like 'regular' variance of tournament poker. You're not really getting rid of variance, you're just reducing the amount of 'forced' variance due to the quicker structures.

Poker doesn't care .. You shove XYz with AA BB not matter the structure for the most part.

JLittle made 'all' his early money from SNG but doesn't go near them now .. why? .. Because they are 'solved' so to speak, so they are purely variance from that perspective on an equal playing field.

Like cash games, you need to table select .. which for tournament play may mean playing at different times of the day when the field may be less skilled.

You have also answered your own question a bit .. Perhaps you are a tad too aggressive in certain spots. I'm not so sure you should ever be flipping for the chip lead near the bubble? That sounds like a leak to me but I'll let the tournament guys get into that. Putting pressure on and flipping with short stack is one thing, but to be crippled or out seems a bit much .. depending on the BB involved. GL

Not cashing for 15 in a row in 45 mans is perfectly standard.

$85 seems fine for the $1 45 mans.
Just move back down to $0.50 if you go below $50

Weird, I know quite a few ppl with consistent 20%+ ROI's in SNGs, including myself.

My own sample is rather small (200) but others have much larger samples.

Why would SNGs be more solved than MTTs? They're almost the same.

That's just his message .. with the qualifier at the end of 'equal playing field'. On the right site with a 'deep' player pool there's always bound to be separation. But if your 'few ppl' always had to sit together then somebody has to lose some of time.

While I don't really know the point where a SNG becomes a MTT (45 players?) I think he's just referring that the shorter the tournament the less 'playable' it is along the way without an incredible structure. GL
