Hi all.

When switching from 2NL to 5NL:

What were the main differences you found?

Did you make any adjustments to your play?

Any specific new strategies you found to be profitable?

Did you find it easy/tough?

Any tendencies with the regulars?

Throw in anything else you feel might be helpful to the thread. I've been searching and couldn't find an awful lot of content with regards to this topic.

TIA!

I think the main difference is that at 2NL you will find more true beginners who really have no clue what they are doing. You will find whales at both levels, just a bit less often at 5NL. Overall though the strategy should not change much. You are going to want to play aggressive preflop with a proper range. Post flop don’t get too fancy. You can probably cbet a bit less than optimal since villains will usually call more than they should. Your main profit at both levels will come from extracting value from players who cannot bring themselves to fold their top pair type hands when you have a two pair or better hand.

I agree with the above. I just moved up and changed my play a lot. I started paying much more attention to stack sizes as well as playing far fewer hands in early position and keeping my range or expanding it in late position depending on what I see happen in front of me.

As far as regulars, they seem to not change their spots over a couple of hours of play. If you can change yours then you can surprise them.
