LOL. That's how I started playing poker. "Short-term disability". Five years and a gazillion operations later it's "Full-time disabled". I'm VERY glad I learned to play. Without poker I'd have been living in a van down by the river long ago. Instead, I'm shopping around for houses, no mortgage TYVM.
Good luck to you. With a bit of determination and a LOT of study, you should be able to make a go of it. If you happen to go busto, and can't replenish your roll, freerolls are a good way to start out. My bankroll was literally zero when I started. After I banked a bit from freerolls, I switched to the lowest limit LHE I could find until I was rolled for uNL.
Never looked back.
