10 to 1 odds but 40% equity needed? 10 to 1 odds but 40% equity needed?

[SOLVED. Equation formatting problem.]
Hello,

I am reading Heads up no limit by collin moshman.

In one of the hands on the turn I calculate the pot odds are about 10 to 1, but the equity needed is 40% to make the call. I'm confused here because the odds are very good, but the percentage seems high. Which would you go by in this spot considering hero has a gutshot straight draw with an over card for 7 outs on the turn or 14% with the rule of 4 and 2 which is no way near 40% so I'm confused what you would want to do here.

Here's the book page (page 40);

Thank you

why would u need 40% equity to call getting 10:1? you would want. u would need only 9% equity.

Is the idea that you have 10 to 1 to make this call profitably in the long run only taking into account the money in the pot and your price to call, but you only have 40% equity to win this particular hand taking your hand into account? Should we just ignore the pot odds and just stick to comparing hand equity to the pot equity? So 7 outs * 2 = 14% hand equity vs 40 / (380 + 40) = 9%.

So actually it's 9% pot equity needed? So with 9% pot equity needed and 14% hand equity you can make the call, right?

If that correct? Also if you have any tips or anything I would appreciate it.

I found the problem. Bing flipped the equation and I didn't notice...

This is the right one:

Thanks anyway

Yes it was a parenthesis problem. I put in 40 / 380 + 40 . The equation should be 40 / (380 + 40). That's where the problem was. Thanks for your help.
