Hi
Is there a way to beat this .10/25/50 tournaments or its a pure bingo?
I dont have a bankroll I can play higher an most importantly I kind of believe that if I cant beat this poor fellow Pokericans how can I play better ones?
I would like to gain some expirience playing.I already read about strategy but it seems to not realy work there(micro-micro).Is there any poker played on low buy-ins or its a myth?
Thanx
Matt

The edge you can have over your opponents is far, far greater in $0.10 SnGs than in $1000 SnGs. It's very easy to exploit the play of those in $0.10 SnGs... not so much in the $1000 SnGs.

So, having decided that you can't beat bad players, you want to try your hand at playing good players? How does that make any sense to you?

Yes, it does.

Do you think they're playing checkers?

Your perception of losing to bad players is mostly due to variance. The players you're talking about (low stakes ultra-micro players) will play more hands and take them further than "good" players. This is their main mistake.

So, a bad micro-player has 52 offsuite against your AA. He open raises, you 3-bet, he shoves, you call. A "good" player may have simply folded to your 3-bet--or not played the hand at all. However, because this player is "bad" he will go all the way with a marginal hand.

Playing people like this will cause you to experience higher variance. In other words you will lose some big pots to them instead of winning every single small pot against the "good" player that folds.

Crymeariver,

I assume you're a mod here because of the green handle.

Did you even read the op's whole post? He makes the point that if he can't beat bad players, he has no business moving up.

He did post it in the beginners forum, so there is no need to jump down the guys throat, especially as a mod.

If he is talking about the 0.10 mtts on stars, they are a pure coinflip contest, as the blind structures are ridiculous. 1500 starting stack and the blinds are up to 400/800 before the first break, probably higher. I've only played a couple of them.

Your edge is bigger in the micro tourneys. There is no such thing as winning consistently in poker no matter what stakes you play; you have an edge and it shows long-term.

Yeah, you're right, I'm sorry, I misread his post - It's a common enough conceit ("I can't beat these players so I'm going to move up").

Trust me, that's not even close

It's the standard turbo structure, except it's an MTT so there are a ton of chips in play.

I've played this structure full time for the last two months in the Double or Nothing STT's (over 7000 tournaments). It's NOT a coin flip.

What it IS, is a 360 player MTT against very bad players. Even if you're brilliant, the variance is going to be sky high.

No kidding.

This is my opinion and from my experience there is alot of varience @ the start of each tourney. I usually wait (unless I have aces) till the game has settled down a little bit. Maybe 1/2 people have been knocked out before I make my move.
