What would typically happen in a casino roulette game if a player accidentally did not meet the minimum bet?

If this is already answered here or elsewhere, I apologize. I did search, but could not find the answer.

I'm going to Atlantic City for vacation with a couple friends who do not typically gamble. One guy who is not super quick intends to play roulette. (He is not differently abled - he just isn't really fast and might legitimately run out of time intending to place a min bet.) If he accidentally failed to meet the minimum bet, would the casino have the ability to refuse to pay a winner?

For example if min bet is $15 and he puts $10 on one number plus $1 each on only four other numbers ($14 bet). If the number on which he bet $10 hits, could the casino refuse to pay because he didn't bet the minimum?

I'm curious about this answer. Would he get his money back if he didn't no hit? If not, the casino is freerolling him, not that I'd be surprised they do that.

What the hell casino has a minimum total bet on the layout? A minimum bet on a single selection, sure. If the underbet is noticed, it would be returned or corrected.

You can't even underbet on a number.

On inside bets the minimum is for the sum of all bets placed.

Usually a casino will allow the bet but may say something. On a busy Friday night the casino probably won't notice with 7 hands going all over the table placing bets.

Tell your friend to join an automated wheel.
Minimum bet is quite lower than live tables usually going from $1 to $5.
He can bet whenever he wants, not being bothered at all about tips.

And he'll get the same amount of free drinks....:-)

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I'm pretty much just trying to avoid letting the casino freeroll him. I doubt he'd know how bad that is for him, so I'm just looking to help be prepared.

Yes, that is my experience ^^. Whatever rules I have found online seem to indicate that totals must meet or exceed the min bet requirements for both inside and outside bets separately.

I don't disagree, and we've done that before, but you have to admit that the experience at a live table is much different (more exciting).

Roulette is kind of weird as they dont really book your bet quite the same way as most card games.

Ive overbet in 21 and got both refunded on losses and not paid the overage on wins many times. Ive seen ppl underbet and if they book it and deal cards it just plays as is. I would guess roullette is tge same but if u do it habitually you might get asked to leave the table.

I used to deal roulette.
On busy games where minimum bet inside say is $15 and you didn't have fifteen $1 non value chips total placed spread out on layout, you'll probably get away with it.

If it's a slow game, and dealer notices it, he will kindly ask you to bet 15 chips minimum every single spin and warn the next dealer coming in after him

thanks. I've seen that in blackjack as well, but worst case the casino was only paying 3:2 so the dealer didn't even ask the floor. I figured 35:1 they might take a different line.

thanks. He has played when the casino is completely dead and the dealer indeed just nicely asked him to fix it. But this year I think it will be busy. Have you ever known a casino to refuse to pay some halfway decent size roulette payout due to something like this?

Refuse to pay for not betting the $15 spread out on the layout?
