Feature Request (again): Custom Cards Menu (XCards if you will). I want to be able to install 20 different custom decks, and pick from a scroll list like the themes. I also want to be able to apply the new deck to 1 or all of the tables, same as the themes. While your at it, might as well do it for custom chips too, IMO.

I was saying I wish that stars hadn't encrypted the gx.ini file. If we could edit it, you could do what you want.

I guess I didn't notice the difference before.
I do kind of dig that and look and agree that having that way in the hyper-simple or other color scheme would be nice.
I like having the avatars on as a quick opponent-recognition thing anyway. But if I preferred to play without the images I think that no-images theme would be the way to go if it weren't in the hideous mustard-and-green color scheme.
I made a No Images version of hypersimple last year. The yellow text on the buttons, and the gray text on the upper left stack size is not ideal.

by "unlock gx.ini" we refer to the huge configuration (ini) file that defines *everything* about a theme / table layout. Back in the olden days (before, and for a short while after Stars added the table themes feature) this was plain text like user.ini is now - and things could be changed in it. Like, you could move where the "pot size" indicator is. Or where seats are, or the font size of player's stacks, and other useful things like that.

Basically it would let us make full table mods, like the new "black" theme - which tweaks the position of almost everything on the table.
you're telling me you can make me the centered seating I've been begging for if they unlock this silly little config file?

Yes, if you mean just create a 6 max / HU layout with a seat at the bottom-centre, as on FTP "classic" view.

fozzy and dave - I know you have been begging for them to do that. I think 'go back to that' is correct because it used to be that way, right?
Do you have any speculation why they are not doing that?
There must be some reason even if it's as basic as, "We don't want no dave's and fozzy's messin' 'round with our clientz , yo!"

It seems like it might make life substantially easier for screen-scraping botters.

They encrypted it before I moved to stars, so I have no clue about what it was like before the current system. I would just like to have more control over the themes I build. I really dont know the technical aspect, I just like to click buttons and make stuff look pretty.

*I would hope/expect it was some type of security concerns.

Dave, yeah I remember the good old days. I moved the pot box to the center of the table and a few other mods. Plus I play limit and am fully stacked so I don't need to look at my stack size like playing pl or nl. Fozzy, yeah I thought you knew how to de-encrypt the gx.ini. I did the same thing making my own hyper-simple mod but that yellow text is horrible.

How there is only O-N-E no images theme out of over a dozen themes just ain't right. My ultimate goal is a spartan table. No "leave table text" (the x in title box works fine). No "view lobby" text (lobby is always up). No "chat, notes, stats, info". All of this text would be in black on a black background. I would still be able to click on their table position to activate their option.

Soooo Poker Stars how about a spartan theme with no table all black background and the table text in only ever so slightly viewable grey. And my dang Hyper-Simple No Images theme would be nice too.

I would like this as well.

Fozzy has a white deck on Full Tilt that is super-sexy but he can't replicate it on Stars with the current setup.

I already made that deck. I did it the hard way.

PM me if you have a hard time finding it.

Which brings up a good point. Why is the text for the Standard and Alternative decks created by the client, and not editable, but the text for the simplified deck is?? Is this why the Simplified deck is updated every time the client updates??

The only reasons I've ever seen posted for locked gx.ini were IIRC in this thread - I believe it was for alleged security purposes, but they are not valid imo. Something along the lines of a nefarious friend changing things about your Stars setup without your knowledge - which is a) already possible, by e.g. messing with the card images, and b) nothing to worry about - if a nefarious "friend" can even get near your "program files", they can do things a lot worse than mess with your graphics

From what I remember, there is nothing of any consequence in the gx.ini file - just stuff like "call button goes here", "chat area is here", "font size is X" and so on.

Anyone ever seen this? Opened a table fine, 1 minute later I get this, and still get it now after rebooting.

LOL

Testing table mods. I havent played more than 200 hands of anything in a day, in months. When I play its just to test mods, or goof around.

I cant stand NLHE, and probably wont play another hand of holdem on stars ever again, if I can help it. Once Badugi goes live, I can promise that.

Maybe I missed it but...

Alex told us how to keep the lobby from minimizing when we join a table.

Is there any way from keeping the lobby from popping up when a table becomes ready that we are on the waiting list for?

I can't get the user.ini keep table open thing to work Everything is set to run as admin etc etc, am I just a huge donk or are there other people who are having a headache getting this working?

The user.ini I am editting is in the root folder for pokerstars.

If you are on vista, that is the wrong one. It helps if you turn the windows preference off that hides known file extensions. You are likely editing a migrated or backup version of the file.

Thanks for the fast reply.

It is a migrated file, the only user.ini around. I've got hide known extensions off now, but unfortunately Help > Open My Settings doesn't do anything for me. Is there a way I can get to that through explorer?

It will be in a folder like this if you are on Vista:

C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\PokerStars

The folder might be hidden by default, so you may have to select 'Show Hidden Files' in Explorer to see it.

I'm surprised that Help > Open My Settings Folder isn't working for you though. Are you using an up-to-date version of the client?

I just managed to donk my way to that folder before refreshing this thread.

Woohoo! It's working great, this is something I've been after for ages too. Simple things

Massive thanks to Fozzy and Alex for helping.

Ive gotten that before when when I open like 70 tables on stars just to to see how many I can open up. For some reason its always a totally different number, sometimes you can open like 50 sometimes only 30. I spend a lot of time goofing off when I could be doing something productive.

I was only opening 1 table, and had nothing else running. Even tried running CCleaner and CacheMan with no luck. Rebooted and got the same error. Uninstalled and reinstalled, and it works of course.

This is clearly against the code and spirit of the game. You obviously could not do this in a live game repeatedly day in and out without threat of serious bodily injury. Why does stars support unethical behavior?

Timing out last to act should be a check, not a fold
seriously

this

also on the fast table if the player is run out of time bank, can the system at least alert the player before fold the hand? I know the purpose of the fast table is to play fast but when you hesitate for 2 seconds and the hand got automatically folded its pretty frustrating.

Anyone else finding this that has managed to solve it, I know I can use StarsPlanner to do this but would rather Stars user.ini did it.

I also get the 'f5redrawtable=1' warning everytime I open StarsPlanner even though I have added it to the user.ini as well.

Finally got this working. I have two accounts set up on my PC, one is an Admin account the other is just a normal User account.

I never use the Admin account only the User account. The Admin account is only set up so that when I'm logged in as User if I want to run a new program etc a password is asked for.

I had to log into my Admin account and go through the steps listed above. When I now log in through my User account the lobby stays up. Yay!
