Can't believe that 20% of the promotions have been deposit bonus'. I knew there would be one or two because they did last year but really... 4? Who's getting paid to make exciting and fun promo's that makes people want to play? I feel a redundancy letter is due...

I allways thought it costs the site when player deposits. Guess this is a way to offer a deposit bonuses that nobody uses.

Yeah I'm not sure how much money they are really getting from this promo? All 4 times I've deposited, got my $1-$2 and withdrew that same amount within 5 minutes. Surely I'm not the only one?

I think the fact that I've only participated on 1 day out of the 20 days so far in the Christmas calendar promotion and actually lost money when I did participate says it all...

I personally find the whole promotion to be unimaginative and a waste of my time.

Unimaginative is 100% the word! It just looks lazy, like they have spent an hour thinking of 7-8 promo's that they have already used before and said yeah we'll repeat these, that will do! It's just so lazy... there are people out there who would actually enjoy making good promo's as a job!

I guess there's no point in moaning as it gets us nowhere... it's just a shame to see stars go so downhill in the 5 years of me playing poker!

+1 Absolutely agree with you guys. I was expecting something similar to what we saw last year but this year the promos are getting way too repetitive, uninteresting and less exciting. I remember last year PokerStars Matthew who used to be active in this thread whom I have huge respect, asked for our feedback/ideas should they do this christmas calendar again. And this is what the feedback was provided:

What's the point of asking for our feedback when you know you're gonna do what you think its the best? (unless you come up with these promos in next 4-5 days which I see highly unlikely)

Funny thing is that your non christmas month promo when you had card match month promo, cash game quest promo in january gave us better EVs than what we are getting in this month..

I'm pretty sure you lost money by doing so.They have a 3% fee for every deposit you make and another exchange rate for withdrawal.
For example,if you deposit 100$ +3% fee(3$) and you get 1 or 2 $ bonus..you still lose(obviously).
And how lucky you must be to deposit 20$ to get extra 2$ when i received the same amount for depositing 400$

I'm not a massive player on Stars anymore or indeed on any poker site. My issue with this calendar is that pretty much every promo in it has been to Stars' benefit, not the players.

A micro millions 'promo' = thanks for all the extra rake they took that day.

That said, they answer to shareholders now, they are a different company. The answer is simply to play elsewhere. If you continue to play there and simply whine about ever increasing rake and poor promos then you are simply giving them evidence to support their view that poker players will remain as customers even with a price hike.

I'm from the UK and have a GBP account on stars that I transfer to as there are no charges. Had to put £24 in, which gave me £24 and same with withdrawing, no charges... it would have charged me if I had put it straight into my USD account and vise versa.

A simple thing for this promotion and for promotions in general: Nothing comes for free!Even it's for free,it's probably the worse deal!

Bingo. This month hasn't been full of promotions, as advertised, it's been full of gimmicks designed to generate rake. I've got no problem with PS trying to generate more money, but don't insult the players by calling this a promotion.

I hate to break the bad news but all promotions are nothing other than gimmicks to make money for the site. In some cases you may be tricked into feeling good by the fact that you personally somehow came out ahead but the real purpose is to drive revenue and profit for the site. What has shifted is more of a focus on an immediate or short term payoff rather than long term payoffs. No business just gives away money. Whatever they may say they are giving away they are really expecting to make several times more in additional profit. It is like a store running a sale. They give up a portion of their per unit profit with the goal of increasing the number of sales which brings in more revenue overall.

Not saying the quality of these promotions don't suck because they do. But even "good" promotions are run for the ultimate benefit of the site. The difference between a good promo and a bad promo for the player is how it makes you feel to take part. For the site the difference is how successful the promo is at driving additional traffic. A great promo is one that makes the players feel good and makes lots of additional money for the site. A disaster promo pisses off the players and loses money for the site. We can speculate where this series of promos falls on that spectrum.

What has also changed is Stars promos are no longer aimed at anyone that reads or post on 2+2. They see us as a group that will for the most part either give them our business or not and will not be strongly swayed one way or another by promos. Just look at how long it has been since a Stars rep participated in this thread?
