Thanks, I stand corrected - the Pokerstars Play app has existed since March 2014 (I do remember the 'play Rafa' campaign vaguely). As late as Oct 21, 2015, Spin & Gos were finally added to it and it was rebranded to Jackpot Poker. Apparently it was such a small event that poker news sites didn't mention it until December 2015.

This insight into the history of the app did clarify a lot for me

But their is another pokerstars play money app PokerStars Poker: Texas Holdem

As far as I understand, this app is the one that gives access to both play money and real money games, against mobile, desktop and tablet users, from one's primary Pokerstars account, and the same country restrictions apply there as on the desktop software, e.g. it's impossible to play vs someone based in Italy while being in France. The player pool of Jackpot Poker is separate (from the main app) and there are no real money prizes there.

Edit: so there are going to be two new poker variants... I've come up with names from them that I'll use until the official brands appear - No-Limit Angry Blinds (NLAB) for the mobile app and NL LoLd'em (NLL) for the gamers' variant.

The idea of making two new variants is actually rather smart - most recreationals will likely go to the mobile app that won't be playable by those who like multitabling, but the high APM button-clickers will also get a new toy to play with...

There are two real money products in the nearer-term development pipeline. Neither of these products have a 'jackpot' element to them like you see in Spin&Gos. The first one is a mobile-only app. Details will likely be announced in the first quarter. The second one is within our regular client offering - this one will be announced likely towards the end of the year. Note that announcement doesn't mean launched worldwide. There will likely be a beta launch in certain markets and then a rollout plan to all players.

Mobile only app sounds an awful lot like player pool segregation, something Stars have always said they wouldn't do.

Will there be a separate account and balance for the new app so that we could play the new mobile and the old desktop games at Stars at the same time? If not, will it be allowed to play on the new app and at the desktop Full Tilt at the same time? Will it be OK to play on the mobile app on the home Wi-Fi (the same IP address being used for desktop games at other times) while being logged out of the desktop Stars, or will it result in a ban for abusing the spirit of the mobile app?

You will be able to play the new app and desktop at the same time and you will have one PokerStars balance that is good for both. One of the benefits of the app is that it is ideal for poker play while away from your desktop. The app is for iOS and Android phones only (no tablets).

I dare ask you a couple more questions:

Shall I be allowed to run the new app from a desktop via an Android / iOS emulator if I set my emulated GPS location there to match my IP address and true location? (Of course there's a higher risk of the app crashing in a simulator than on a native device, but I'm willing take that risk.)

If so, what kinds of third party tools will be allowed during the play on the app? (E.g. hotkeys, HUD apps initially designed for live poker, screen-scraping hand history generators for desktop HUDs?)

Just so I'm clear... this mobile app will be a poker game vs. just other people on the app and not against people playing from their PC correct?

I see no big difference - if the game is for / vs mobile users only (it does look like that), regs will be playing on the app with the left hand and desktop games with the right.

The biggest difference might be that the absence of a desktop version of the game will allow Stars to create a test HUD-less environment as they're not yet confident of banning / disrupting HUDs in all other games.

Edit: if the new game is as fast as Spin & Gos, there will actually be no need to add tables of other games on the desktop client - the current Android, iPhone and iPod Touch apps allow to play at 4 tables at once, the iPad app - at 5, and 4 tables of Spin & Gos are more than enough, I can't even keep up with more than 3.

3 x $2.50, rest $1. Missed two days. It does say in the details that anything other than $1/$2.50 is very unlikely.

I do think it's a well conceived promo. It's attainable for a rec but would probably get them to play a bit more than usual.

I got a 10$ bonus with my first try. Ran a 10$ stack up to 50$ while 4-tabling but lost the same money on the 3 others tables. Ended the session with -10$ (20$ lost + 10$ bonus).

Didn't try afterwards. I blow at cash.
