Would you want to continue to play once you realize that they are only playing because you're at the table? I also can't tell you how many times I load up the lobby and 4-5 tables have a waitlist of 7+ players, as if the fish will still be there when the 7th player is seated.
If you are terrified of the regs while the fish reloads, play slower until they reload.
If you can only turn a profit when half the table are recs, maybe you should find a different line of work.
I'd consider bum hunting to be 4-5 regs sitting out and magically sitting in when an unknown (or known fish) joins, or someone chasing a rec around on the site. Anything other than that is just table selection / table starting IMO.
I'm usually gone from a table once it gets to 4 regs. This entire situation (leaving when the last rec busts) can be mostly avoided by other regs also leaving when the table becomes 4 regs and instead making new tables. If a table constantly has at least 3 recs, this spot of leaving after the last rec busts will come up far less often. I get that at low traffic times this isn't always feasible if you need to get in volume.
Most recs think they're good players, even to the point they'll berate people in chat for "bad plays" or make claims the site is rigged. Remember, they did just spend however many orbits at a reg filled table til they got busted. They don't know who the good players or the bad players are. The one rec I knew personally never would take even the most basic strategy advice from me, then call me up to tell his bad beats and/or how he used to win but can't win anymore.
As to whether I'm profitable on reg only or 5 reg tables, in most cases... yeah, but it's not worth it when there are other options... such as opening a soft table from a lower limit... softer table from the same limit... or even just paying more attention to the other tables open. At a higher limit it might be more worth it to play with other regs since a small win rate + RB can translate into a lot of $.
