If your bank gives you a hard time or says it's against their policy you should remind them that you live in a state where it is legal to play online poker and that you as a consenting adult would like to use your own money in any legal way that you see fit, and if they have a problem with that then you will take your money to another bank.

Im obviously not stars support and can't say what they can do to help, but comments like yours always rub me the wrong way because it reminds me how backwards our country and our banking system are. America likes to pretend like it's a front runner in progress, when in reality many of our practices, industries, and general thinking are all quite archaic

Do you plan on offering NJ players WSOP qualifiers to this year's main event? If so, when do these typically begin?
03-12-2016 , 02:56 PM
Prolly not. Stars never has or isn't allowed to.

So this means anyone who is not an American resident cannot play. It is impossible for a non US citizen to get an SSN if not working in the States. 99% of ROW players are out unless an ITIN can be used. This is not an inconvenience, it is an impossibility.

Is information available on the deposit limits of the various options upon launch?
03-13-2016 , 12:57 AM
I am from the US, but I moved to Canada a year ago to be able to play on Pokerstars. Often I travel back to the States and New Jersey where my family lives. Will I be able to play on Pokerstars NJ when I visit by creating a new account, or will I mess myself up horribly and end up with both accounts deactivated and suspended?

FWIW it was nice to see an add on my Facebook news feed this morning.

I don't think it will mess you up. However you have to live in NJ to play in NJ. Your current address where you reside is Canada. I don't think PokerStars will let you create 2 accounts to play. I could be wrong tho.

I have a question for Dylan. I downloaded the PS app on my phone. PokerStars (lite). I however made a typo when typing in my email address. I was able to play for a short time. when I tried to login in again, it said it does not recognize the email address. I typed in my correct address and it said there is an account with that address, which is my account. Will that screw me up when I sign up for PokerStarsNJ?

I don't think this is correct? I know people from NY who drive over the border to play, but then again I never asked what address they used.

You just have to be in the state of New Jersey to play. You can use any valid address you would like to. Ex. If you live in NY use your NY address and drive to NJ and play.

You should probably read the OP to obtain most answers.

For instance, from the OP:

You can only create a PokerStars NJ account and deposit if you have a valid SSN, a US postal address, and can meet the verification requirements. However, please be aware that you will not be able to play for real money unless you are physically located within the state of New Jersey.

What if I am a US resident outside of New Jersey, am I required to create an account on PokerStars NJ?

If you are not a resident of New Jersey, but are a US resident and would like to play our real money games and intend to visit the state of NJ now or in the future, we suggest opening a new PokerStars NJ account. Please be aware that you will not be able to play for real money unless you are physically located within the state of New Jersey.

Can I access my PokerStars NJ account outside of New Jersey?

Yes, you can log in and make a deposit or cash out request via the cashier, but you will be unable to play any Real Money games unless you are physically located within New Jersey.

What do I need to be able to play Real Money Games at PokerStars NJ?

The following criteria must be met to play at PokerStars NJ:

1) You must be 21 years of age or older
2) You must be physically located within New Jersey
3) You must have a Social Security Number and US postal address
4) You must have a PokerStars NJ account and complete electronic account verification

If I’m a non US resident visiting New Jersey, will I be able to play for Real Money?

No, you will be unable to play on PokerStars NJ. At present, in order to play Real Money games on PokerStars NJ you must have a Social Security Number (SSN) in order to complete account verification.

Thanks I read that but I still wasn't sure, and am still not. I can put in an address in the states but my main residential address is in Canada. I was wondering if that would be a problem for me being that they have on file that I'm living in Canada, would I be able to put an address in the states or will that be a problem.

Shouldn't be a problem as long as they can verify your identity with a SS#. I've seen different country flags on 888 i am assuming their home address is in a different country. The law is written so that as long as your in the state you can play as long as they can verify your identity hence the SS# requirement.

I read it that if you are a US resident, with a US postal address, and have a valid SSN, you can open a PSNJ account.

I'd assume that if someone tries to bend their rules, they'd err on the side of caution.

Also, from OP:

What will happen to my existing account?

Once you have created a new account on PokerStars NJ following the above steps, your old account will be closed.

Yes, you can opt to create a new account on PokerStars NJ and your existing account will be unaffected. However please note that you will not be able to use the same User ID unless you complete the quick account creation process from your original PokerStars account.
Yep.

Scrolling through the thread, I now see:

It seems that if you meet the conditions for a PSNJ account, and the conditions to play in Canada, you can have two accounts.

If you wish to maintain your PokerStars.com account you established in Canada, do not follow the "Quick Account Creation" process and instead create a new PokerStars NJ when you sign-up. You will not receive a VIP Status/StarsCoin Balance based on your play history, but you will be able to maintain both accounts.

Let me know if this is clear.

I recommend emailing support@pokerstarsnj.com for this, they should be able to help.

I was Supernova Elite in April 2011 (and haven't played since), and I'm pretty sure I cashed out my entire balance and FPP's, are Supernova Elite rewards still a thing? Trying to decide if I should keep my old account or create a new one

No, there won't be a Supernova Elite VIP tier for PokerStars NJ. You would receive Supernova VIP status (27-30% in rewards on rake paid) until the end of the year if you wished to keep your old account.

Thanks,
Dylan

Dylan,

I emailed them on 3/12/16 regarding my email problem in the afternoon and have not heard back.

Thank you very much Mike, I really appreciate your following up and helping me with this. I'm sure you are correct that I can, but my issue is that since I must have a US address to open up Pokerstars NJ, and they have on file that I have a Canadian address I may run into problems. I will email them myself with this query to err on the side of caution as you said.
