FWIW I'm in the UK too. It's almost 4 hours since my post above; I'm still seeing the same thing. Can't log in. 100% connection to all sites in the network status panel, but the tracert (plus my own from a cmd line) confirm nothing is getting from the NTT.net server to Rational's own servers.

Not sure if this has been the case for the full 4 hours; I've been playing on Party instead. Running in godmode, too. Thanks, Stars. I'd forgotten how juicy Party can be...

Version 6, I can't connect, infinite green bar, shows error and exists after a minute or two. "Network status" connects to everything just fine.

^ lol, I played some fast forward on party and got crushed.

Back on stars now; manually updated by running pokerstarsupdate.exe from local drive.

For those of you who are having problems, can you let us know if you are using significantly older versions of our software, having taken steps to avoid upgrading software to new versions automatically?

We have seen a relatively small number of cases come through today and this has been the common thread. Uninstalling and reinstalling (the most recent version) fresh has solved the problem.

Anybody having trouble connecting, run through pokerstarsupdate.exe and it updates to a new version with the new casino.

On Uk client BTW.

Running PokerStarsUpdate.exe does seem to solve the problem as well.

I'm using older version, I just run "pokerstars.exe", and sometimes it complains about upgrading.

Did you guys choose to force upgrade 7 days before deadline? My HM and TN will stop working with the new version?

I open the client and it wont connect. I just get the connecting bar going back and forth, I click on network status and it says its fine. Using stars 6, never got prompted to update

No - I'm fully up to date on whichever version on PS7 you last rolled out in the UK (complete with unwanted casino features...) Build 8926, apparently.

I've just tried forcing an update. Managed to get it to tell me there was an update available; it eventually failed, saying "Your connection to PokerStars update server has failed. Error code -2/-99."

It looks very much like network issues to me. The issue is between ntt.net and Rational. Almost 5 hours now.

Updating (pokerstarsupdate.exe) then reverting does the trick.

This is not a planned experience. When we do force upgrades there is an explanation to that effect when older versions stop working. Additionally, we are aware of the considerations for high volume players and while it's not impossible that we could force upgrade at this time of year, it's not something that would likely happen and that is not the case this time.

The appropriate parties are investigating. Thanks to you all for your reports here; you helped draw attention to the problem and it will be addressed more quickly as a result.

Follow-up (separate post for clarity). It appears that forcing an update did help. I now have build 9159 and can log in.

Steve - what's going on here? I have kept my Stars client up to date whenever prompted. Faulty update rolled out?

Update: This issue is now resolved. Even older clients should now be able to log in without update, so if you are on your SN/SNE grind and need older versions for 3rd party tool compatibility, they will again work.

This was not actually the result of a new client being released. A systems upgrade resulted in clients older than a certain date no longer being able to log in. The impact was not properly highlighted/managed.

We have reverted the systems upgrade but it is an upgrade that we must complete before too long. Expect that early in January we will force an upgrade to newer clients with an appropriate message. A week or two later an attempt to use much older clients will result in the same experience as earlier today, failure to connect without any helpful message.

Apologies to all who experienced inconvenience today. Thanks again for your help in highlighting and detailing the issue.
