perhaps this is already available in some form or i'm not aware of appropriate settings?
On iOS 5, you can set the alert style to "none" and then you won't see any visual notification when you receive one, but if you pull the notification center down, you can see all of them.

I would pay good money for an invention that summons my wallet to me every time I want to pay for something online - rather than having to get up and go find it.

why would you need your wallet to pay for something online?

Guys,

I'm a finance/entrepreneurship student in the midst of Startup Weekend at Miami U -- final pitches are tomorrow. We're looking for customer validation and specifically trying to get feedback outside of the college market -- any professionals would be great. If you guys could take 2 minutes to fill out this survey I'd really appreciate it -- it's fairly basic and somewhat poorly designed but will get me some of what I'm looking for.

Here's the link: http://t.co/G6fzIqv3

I'll debrief the whole experience and explain the whole idea for this thread to tear apart after I catch up on sleep Monday/Tuesday if there's interest but any feedback via the survey would be awesome for now. Thanks guys!

Took the survey, good luck!

Seems like a cool idea given the limited info I could put together from the survey. I assume most disciplined people would not be willing to give up a percentage prior to investing, but assuming this is targeting those who are not disciplined (and able to acknowledge that) I could see a market for this type of service. Looking forward to updates.

Thanks for the help! And yeah, your assumption is right. 42 hours since I've slept so I'm going to save the whole writeup for another time, but in the end we got 3rd. Made a mess of some stuff in the pitch that may have cost us the top or second spot but whatever, we made a ton of progress for a couple days. 3 of us worked on it this weekend -- no developer or designer -- while most other teams had both and as many as 9 people working, so 3rd is fine with me. We were able to get a developer after pitching today so we've got that going for us...which is nice.

Local paper's got a blurb about it in an article about the event as a whole so now I'm stuck trying to get more of a (minimal) web presence up before the morning...I'm completely clueless with all this so it's not exactly a party over here but such is life?

The only way I can think to make your idea work in terms of fees would be for you to create a fund of funds and reallocate them based on what people invest. Otherwise, a $5 investment wont be able to beat the trading fees. I also dont know if even that would be possible because you'd still need to buy shares in the fund whenever you invested and I honestly have no idea if you can buy shares from the fund directly without going through a broker as a way to avoid the fees per trade [again this may be easily possible, I really just have no idea and am brainstorming]

Memorize credit card information, problem solved. I know my credit card, debit card, account number, routing number, driver's license plus all other standard number info.

In short though, I think recipes need to be less about lists (of ingredients, of steps) and more about what's needed for each step and what's being done.

The best way I can try to explain it is, imagine the difference between a standard set of instruction for putting something together, and the IKEA set of instructions. I want to be closer to the IKEA set. Each step is clearly laid out, you know exactly what you need, you know where you are in the entire process, you know what few things are coming up next, hopefully you can know what else can be done concurrently, stuff like that.
I did not mean to blow this off for so long, but here are a couple examples I threw together tonight in GIMP. One of a single step on a screen, the other of multiple steps on a screen.

Will come back to this later when I can give it proper due, but I think you're either:
A) Only seeing one small piece without looking at the bigger picture and how it all comes together, or
B) Envisioning something entirely different than what I'm really doing.

Either one is understandable considering how little I've put out there so far -- more to come later.

Went back and read a little of the early discussion but not everything so someone might have already mentioned this, but I really like the idea of integrating the whole "Show, don't tell" deal into this kind of a product as much as possible (obv you still need ingredient list at beginning, etc.).

i think that's a great idea. i'm surprised it doesn't already exist but as a novice cook i think i would prefer that style of recipe to the traditional one.

one practical thing to notice is that people might be annoyed that they have to use their ipad while cooking/with dirty hands. might be worth it to make sure all the buttons are in the same spot, are very easy to use (so you can use your left pinky or w/e as that might be cleaner while cooking) etc

The iPad has a microphone as part of its specs, so looks like it is possible.

Love the cooking app idea - I would also spell out instructions. As a fairly novice cook, I'll read a line from a recipe that says "Do xx to the onions" and be like "What the hell does that mean?"

with an app you could just make all techniques a link to a guide on how exactly to perform that technique [obv it wont be perfect] and then have it remember what recipe you came from so you can go back to it

This is kinda what the "video" link in the first picture was hoping to be, but I see your point. Understanding the difference between chop, dice, mince, etc is a huge piece of cooking; and one I wasn't fully appreciative of until recently.

On the plus side, I was at Startup Riot today meeting with a bunch of folks, and showed those pictures to a couple guys at Trip Lingo, which aside from being a great app you should all buy is one of the best designed apps out there. They liked the idea which was also pretty awesome.

My "much better at coding" business partner seems to think it's pretty easy to implement as an Android app (which he's been learning lately) so maybe we'll have a simple version in the next few months if we find some time.

I fully expect everyone here to download it.
