Cryptocurrency Subforum Discussion Cryptocurrency Subforum Discussion

I've been wanting to see a crypto subforum here for a while, though I'm assuming there must be reasons why one hasn't been put up yet so I'm sorry if this has already been discussed. Perhaps this post should be in ATF but I figured this community should have the say rather than it being a mod type decision.

I'd love to see more specific research/discussion threads (individual altcoin analysis, Irieguy's thread, world macro events and their effects, industry issues like Aug 1st and ICOs, sticky threads for newbs, etc), and generally just have a dedicated area for all of us to share and learn; to keep our ideas and discussions more cohesive as well as expand our topics of discussion. I enjoy reading all of the critical posts and posters as well so I hope they would follow along for some good discussion; I wouldn't be interested in a culture of justifying our own viewpoints.

Thoughts?

Pros: More detailed/dispersed discussions of money making (and losing) opportunities

Cons: Lots and lots of idiots all in one spot
Cons: Loss of third party BFI traffic and readership to these threads

You're way better off keeping it in BFI. It's not like we're that busy.

In that case, what is there to discuss? "Buy bitcoin". Discussion ended. No forum needed. Congratulations, you successfully argued against your own position.

Photo of you with your said lambo? Someone has a lambo from bitcoins - probably the guy who sold some of his to you at the top of the bubble.

You're showing precisely why we shouldn't a coin forum.

Or maybe we should have a coin forum so you could further explain how it's any worse than the stock market. Because the stock market is just too stable right? There has never been a crash... Lots of sarcasm back and forth, its hard to tell how serious we are. LOL.

Love how a two year phenomenon in one country relates to an over 8 year worldwide trend

That graph is four years, not two, and goes back a lot further; the tulip was introduced to Holland in 1593.

Love how you think your bubble/ponzi scheme is any different from any other. Madmen caught up in the bubble of the moment always do.

Oh ya, 3 years

Bubble is subjective. Everything is a bubble.
Calling it a ponzi is just ridiculous

Not a bubble up to the size of the legitimate illegitimate economy that bitcoin sustains (about $300).

You have guys in the bitcoin thread openly admitting that they're doing ponzi activities (openly admitting that they're promoting it and claiming it's going to go up to get more new money to buy in to make it go up more), and it's not a ponzi? Cool story bro.

The only reason 90% of people are buying bitcoin are in the hopes that some other, larger number of people will buy it at even higher prices so they can sell for a profit. That's the definition of a ponzi bubble.

To be fair, that's also how most stocks work.

only true in the bubble phase of bull markets, hence tooth's comments. for the rest of the cycle you're getting a nice free cash flow stream

It was at around $250 before the last halving of the block reward, which would take it to about $500. There has been growth in those markets since then, so I would guess $700+ now. Nowhere near $2700 though, that's just speculation on technical advancements enabling new use cases. Which won't happen (if it happens) before people lose faith, and the bubble pops.

People buy part of a company because they think that company will be successful--->their investment goes up in value and they make money.

Bitcoin is similar in the sense that a lot of people invest in it because they think they are buying a % of the worlds future reserve currency (lol) and that one day it will be so widely used and impossible to not use that it will be worth 500000, or 1000000 a coin or whatever.

The problem is, it will never be widely used as a currency because it has virtually no utility over ACTUAL currency, and anything it's blockchain could do that real currency cannot can already be done by far better by other software like ethereum.

No one within bitcoin of course realizes this yet, or is ready to admit it, because the fever of speculation is still running hot. Give it a while, pretty soon the fever will dissipate and bitcoin will crash. All the late baghodlers will lose their shirts and the guys who got in early and out late will either make a ton or lose a little ==== ponzi.

I mean gold the commodity. The problem is, it will never be widely used as a currency because it has virtually no utility over ACTUAL currency, and anything gold can do can already be done far better by bitcoin. Wiring and jewelry aside of course, but those 2 use cases are not what gives gold an 8 trillion market cap. So it's a ponzi.
