It is a fine occupation if you are a bored househusband or wife and it keeps you from doing the poolboy
It’s a legitimate service that family members are likely to need and if they’re not savvy will end up paying a large sum to someone else. The fact that so many of them are leaches and the fact that so many middle men demand a cut when you go through conventional channels is why your relatives would benefit from it.

You don’t have to charge them the full 2.5% that some random working for a large brokerage will insist on because you don’t have to pay huge fees or invest in marketing... you can work under a discount brokerage and figure out a price that both benefits your relatives and is worth your time.

If no one in your family or extended network has a license or if you plan on buying/selling with any regularity it offers a lot of value for very little of a commitment in time and effort.

It’s silly to judge it relative to other career paths. For the vast majority it’s a side gig.

Okay, I've got a question...This advice has came up a few times ITT so what are we considering low income RE?

Keep in mind the avg home price for the area is just under $200k and you can buy a 3 bed 2 bath in nice shape and good neighborhood for $150k.
