It’s a legitimate service that family members are likely to need and if they’re not savvy will end up paying a large sum to someone else. The fact that so many of them are leaches and the fact that so many middle men demand a cut when you go through conventional channels is why your relatives would benefit from it.
You don’t have to charge them the full 2.5% that some random working for a large brokerage will insist on because you don’t have to pay huge fees or invest in marketing... you can work under a discount brokerage and figure out a price that both benefits your relatives and is worth your time.
If no one in your family or extended network has a license or if you plan on buying/selling with any regularity it offers a lot of value for very little of a commitment in time and effort.
It’s silly to judge it relative to other career paths. For the vast majority it’s a side gig.
