Now it's going to be who can grow it the fastest.

It's mostly about growing it the cheapest. Biggest markups in oils and concentrates derived from cheap cheap bush weed.

I am going to laugh if we see a massive rebound off of the news that everything was busy.

Also curious what happens when we inevitably hear back from stoners that the weed isn't that great. I know several patients that had always complained about the quality of their licensed producers, getting weed that was several months old, etc.

Not right now. Right now it's who can grow it the fastest. Everything is selling out. Next year it will be who can grow it the cheapest.

Aphria seems to have an advantage for growing it the cheapest.

On the U.S. side, Ianthus and MPX are merging (pending approval).
https://www.newcannabisventures.com/...nnabis-sector/

I had both of these. I think this is a strong complementary merger. Ianthus has strong licenses MPX doesn't have (NY, FL), but MPX has stronger brand/presence in the markets they are in (they kill it in Arizona). Now combined they'll have licenses in 10 states. They'll likely be adding NJ soon too. I'm going to buy more.

Investor deck for the merger:

Slide 17 is a good overview of the major U.S. players.

The U.S. market is where the money is long-term. Canada is relatively tiny. Of course, Canadian companies have the first to market advantage and will be looking to get into U.S.

An "understatement"? Not sure what this means other than aggressively average down and if that's the case, lmao. CGC is up 400% over the past year, the idea you are going to average down into a momentum trade when your main catalyst is behind you and momentum starts to crack not just on a sector basis but across the market just seems like gambling to me. Some of these could fall 50%+ easily, good luck.

Canadian shops are the main catalyst? Farm bill, all sorts of investments and new products, Sessions being replaced by almost anybody, markets opening up over the next few years - US, Mexico, Latin America, Europe, UK, Asia. The big names aren't going anywhere, and the pennies with production capacity or niche market share are going to be snapped up. Gambling? Sure, tgodf down 40% while acbff up about the same. Still buying both...

Marijuana stocks are crazy. I bought some of that MJ etf back in December right before they converted it from a Latin American Real Estate ETF to marijuana, it jumped up to $38 in the first few weeks, then trended down until it settled in a range of $30-32 for a while, I sold at about $32, then it crashed down to about $25 and about a month ago jumped up to about $43. It closed at $34 today.

I don't always buy frivolous pot stocks, but when I do, I prefer they tank 25% on the first day.

No it isn't. What part of massive momentum play and bs valuations don't you guys understand? You wait and see rather than rush in unless you are a trader and from what I've seen in this thread most of you have zero edge.

Its called a trade. But I wouldn't mind investing around 38. Thought about discussing investment horizon but I didn't actually take a position. I got long AAPL instead. But then I saw this chart.

Think yesterday the risks for a move like this were high. I think the risks are now more to the upside.

Is legalization of USA and Mexico in 2019 priced in?
Wanna get high? ... Investing in marijuana Quote

Almost every domestic market that has become legal is suffering from over saturation/falling prices. Reminder, this is during a year when price inflation is steadily on the rise in most other commodities. Canada will be no different, it's a novelty at first and then usage moderates. The view on legalization is positive, I see more people using Marijuana related products both domestically and globally in the years to come (as does a lot of the public and institutions which bulls do not give enough credit simply because there have been huge ST gains) but that's priced in to the runs you've seen in this sector. Extreme executional risk, like a lot of things in life most of the early companies will fail due to expectations not matching reality.

Well, I may have been an idiot for saying it was a good buying opp, but it was a quick 5-10% gain from there today.

I bought but didn't sell because I'm stupid.

I have small positions in CGC, MJ, Aphria and the REIT IIPR. I'm going to atleast give them a quarter or two to see what shakes out.

I've been surprised by the pullback, but maybe shouldn't be. Either way, I see a bunch of potential big events over the next few months that have the potential to move stocks.

Talk of federal legalization/Sessions fired
4 state ballot initiatives in US elections
first round of earnings post-legalization for Canada
retail sales beginning next year in some provinces

None of that seems like a longshot to me. More speculative: new announcements, partnerships, deals, etc ... All that said, I got killed this week with options on MJ and so wtf do I know. But hey, I said I was gambling.

You guys keep repeating the same bullish points about Sessions/legalization as if the market doesn't understand that... It's not a secret. Two things can be true, the fundemental case is good for weed related products long term and these have run an insane amount short term and are need of a major shakeout across the board.

No offense to those of you invested but like in crypto some of the dumbest people on earth are in this space hoping to get rich quick. Marijuana really isn't addictive, unlike cigarettes, alcohol, etc. The addressable market is built on hopes and dreams of all the things Marijuana COULD become and that's where the executional risk is.

Every investing thread I've ever read anywhere is exactly like this. The bulls go crazy panic mode when their stocks drop and the bears come in to 'I told you so.' Then the stock recovers and the bears go quiet again. The fact of the matter is that the market cap for canadian weed stocks was $28 billion dollars with an estimated market of only $10 billion. So every stock is overvalued by a factor of 3 right now. Anyone could see this crash coming after legalization. I dont have options on my trading account otherwise I would have shorted.

But in the long run the companies that are most connected and making money now are the most likely to continue making money and growing in the future. So stop panicking and relax.
