Woops. I took some profits, but this rekt what was left pretty hard. Definitely expected relief for a bit longer. Not to say this doesn't bounce back, and find a way to continue to run, but rafiki is probably closer to reality

I'd think Ontario is going to have big decisions to make now, as will everyone else. Like I said before, it's gonna be a race to buy the equatorial plantations now to survive. Should be fun to watch.

I sold out of TGODF today, on the latest news:

Quote:
The Company estimates that it will need approximately $70M to $80M between now and the end of Q2 2020 to undertake the plan and reach positive operational cash flow by Q2 2020; it has engaged with an advisor and is currently evaluating a variety of options to secure the required funding. This plan maintains the optionality to recommence completion of Valleyfield Phase 1a to full 65,000 kg capacity and Phase 1b for a further 65,000 kg once there is a clear path to Canadian retail store expansions and legal revenue growth. Funding is expected to come from operating cash flow or with lower cost financing given proven production and revenue from Ancaster and the smaller first phase of Valleyfield.
Lesson learned.

So clearly, this is the bottom.

I think they'll be some kind of technical rebound at some point that's going to trap a bunch more money. As an "investor", I'm not investing here. It is interesting to see Bernie so pro cannabis. Could be that all the democratic candidates would be pro-legalization. If that happened obviously there would be one more big wave of euphoria. But no sense putting money on the line this far out from the election.

Anyone here have any thoughts on Cresco Labs crlbf? They seem well positioned to impact this market in USA in near future (next 1-2ish years)

my condolences to anyone who is long this dumpster fire sector

Quote:
I really cannot think of a worse place to be invested. You have the basic economics of growing celery, with all the government regulation of an HMO, complete with the regulatory risk of manufacturing pharmaceuticals, with a two-tier system of legal and illegal producers—where legal prices are dramatically more expensive, with hundreds of entrants, funded with billions in equity capital who don’t care about near-term economics, all locked in a vicious price war, focused on gaining marketing share. If it sounds like an insane place to invest—that’s because it is—particularly as demand is stagnating. You’d have to be stoned out of your mind, to want to own any of these companies.

a few comments,

a friend of mine who is into marijuana told me the legal stuff isn't potent enough.... couple that with the high value/weight of marijuana and the canadian governments not cracking down on illegal sales, it seems like illegal sales will be highly significant for the foreseeable future..... and as i mentioned, with marijuana being "small", i would think there will always be a black market. vs. something like beer, which is very bulky and hard to sell illicitly in any significant quantity.

watch out for the lock-ups. not sure of exact timing of all of them, but a wall of stock coming out with limited real buying.... i had mentioned G&M article where shorting fees on some big marijuana stocks are in excess of 20%. if you freely own these shares and aren't getting that fee, i think you are in trouble.

i looked up aurora..... looks like run-rate revenue of $300MM C$ based on latest quarter..... $4B market cap... no idea what targeted ebitda margin would be, but that's a steep price/revenue ratio.

It's somewhere closer to cigarettes than booze. Cigs from the first nations flood the market at low price. But obviously still a fortune to be made on cigarettes, and it's the same for cannabis. The time where it will really make the most is as it replaces sleeping pills and horrible anxiety meds. Till then it's going to be lucrative for some and a mess for others. Not going to get into it all now, but the market is bigger than people probably estimatesd, but I see 5-6 years before we really get a sense of the scope. They also need to get their prices down and quality up.

I think today it's tradable. Will be some time before it's investable. And like I've warned before, the warm countries will dominate the space soon. The stocks of companies who grow weed in Central America is who you'll want to own eventually.

So many companies going to 0. I think HEXO and ACB are near locks. That HEXO dilution looks awful.

Doesn't look very sunny in the USA either. https://www.newsweek.com/congress-si...upport-1479114

Aphria, MediPharm, and Valens all profitable right now. Probably where I look in the new year if at all. Happy for shorts, was an even easier play than the long from years back.

Industry is technically bottoming out here. CGC break of 22 started new uptrend. Added CVSI to watchlist for trade.

Pretty sure DJI is going down to 27.5k$ - 28k$ zone, when and how fast, I don't know. Russell 2000 looks even worse. Bitcoin is starting to look really good again, looks like some sort of cup and handle in formation ready to pop higher.

*edit, somehow didn't realize this is weed stock thread.

Have 600 or so shares of aphria from December at around $6.20 CAD. Wish I would of sold up 10% a couple weeks ago, now down 20%. Anyone else stuck and not planning on selling? The money could be better used elsewhere but I think there is a very good chance of recovery within the next couple months.
