The best are GTBIF TCNNF TRSSF imo. I think all of these have a great shot to double from today's prices within a couple years. You could also buy MSOS too, of course, but that has exposure to a lot of crappy companies. SMG also seems good as a cannabis-related play.

I'm not convinced of the upside prospects of these companies. If federal legalization passes, I don't see why growers don't get commoditized to death by ag companies, and their margins go from 35% to 5%. In this scenario, they're relying on their retail locations providing their earnings, but they'll essentially be getting liquor-store margins at that point. And we see even now that retailers who aren't vertically integrated with grow operations have poor earnings. But if federal legalization doesn't happen, you're stuck paying absurd tax rates and unable to write off assets, plus the liquidity issues from trading OTC indefinitely. And while I assume the tax situation couldn't get worse than it is now, they may still be punitively taxed by greedy state governments the way tobacco or gaming are.

The only investment I have in this space is PBIT/POSAF, who does payment solutions since these companies can't work with traditional providers. I haven't seen anything else in the weed space that's all that compelling.

Big move on volume in this industry today. Seeing some news about federal legalization bill. The MJ ETF up after hours too it looks like it should gap up. Noticed the big names like CGC are so beaten down for a long time there could be a good move higher.

Multi state operators with a legitimate legal moat for growth, distribution and retail licenses would be the big winners with a federal legalization bill, not Canadian big names that have zero operations in the US with less revenues than US multi state operators, or an ETF composed of mostly Canadian companies. Multi state operators volume today was mostly flat, although i agree with you that the big names have been beaten down and there could be a big move higher. But it certainly isn't with Canadian stocks like Canopy growth, tilray, MJ, etc...it's with curaleaf, trulieve, Verano, MSOS

Still haven't made a move into long term holds but valuations are tempting. Such a beat down sector with strong revenues. I don't follow politics but gotta figure some marijuana legislation would be a popular move.

What's are the biggest risks here with getting into some long term positions? Picking the wrong companies that get run into the ground? Covid lows are still another -50% from here for a lot of names, so could still draw down for a bit and face some pain? What happens if a company delists and goes private for OTC stocks? Legislation opening the doors for rapid debt-based growth for currently unknown companies?

Looking at the the store numbers and revenues for a lot of tier 1 and tier 2 names, it looks like the typical store is averaging 6-10 million in revenue. Do these businesses have a competitive moat with licenses?

Still seems like a lot of money to be made here long term

Thanks for posting that data. The biggest risk is say the companies are run well and grow and should be great investments but just being on the illiquid pink sheets OTC they never get exposure or any buyers and the stock price never changes or goes down even with superior numbers. It happens.

If a publicly traded companies goes private they cash out shareholders at a certain $ amount per share. It might be optimal to just look at the ones with the highest daily trading volume with an actual history of the stock price going up at any points. If it trades like 1,000 shares a day and less than $1 a share it probably always will and never budge up.

Decent moves and volume in the industry today off news. Most likely the moves won't continue if we are going off past hype moves but these may run a bit and be good shorts too.

Since this thread was bumped I will add this. Germany is supposedly legalizing in early 2023 so these stocks might still be a hold despit any market downturns.

Good point, which stocks do we think are positioned nicely to benefit from the legalization in Germany?
