To recall and show respect for Jed McCaleb and his work in Ripple. I present to you the 'Got Jed?' Giveaway.

Jeds are intended to be distributed in all Ripple Wallets as a reminder of one of the brilliant minds behind Ripple.

Jeds are intended to make Jed McCaleb know we, the Ripple community, have not forgotten him, nor will we forget.

Jeds are intended to show and remind Ripple Labs the importance of the community.

Jeds are intended to simply show the word 'JED' in your wallet.

Please help me distribute Jeds, so together we support the Man, the Myth, the Legend... Jed McCaleb

There are 999,999,999,999 Jeds to distribute.

Trust the JED Issuing Address rMUVZiUKrcZNqfpgNJRqQjpatGCPZSdrB8 for up to 9,999,999 JED or less depending how much you really want to distribute and I'll send them to you.

To send JED to your friends, tell them to trust the JED Issuing Address for how much JED you're willing to share.

Any thoughts on NXT? I've invested a bit in it. It has a lot of advantages over BTC. More info here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.0

I've been more and more interested in alt coins as a lot of them are coming up with really cool innovations.

Another one I've been looking at: Solar Coin (SLR - www.solarcoin.org) (aims to incentivize solar power generation over the next 20-30 years). Mostly out of personal interest there.. the odds it goes up to the predicted $20-30 value are small, but at the very least they're trying to create some good out of an alt coin. There's so many dumb ones out there trying to dogecoin their way to success.

To help people new to Ripple get their wallets activated, we present to you The Got Jed? Initiative.

by Hurukan, JaiChai and lucky331

The Got Jed? Initiative is intended to make it easier to activate wallets of people new to Ripple.

The Got Jed? Initiative is intended to encourage fellow Ripplers to participate in helping new people in Ripple get their wallets activated.

The Got Jed? Initiative is intended to be a proactive giveaway, by the community for the community.

The Got Jed Initiative is intended to raise Ripple awareness and encourage people to join the community and make it grow.

The Got Jed? Initiative is intended as a positive movement committed to build a solid community thru the act of giving.

The Got Jed? Initiative is intended to peg the value of JED to .000001 XRP to discourage the Got Jed? Giveaway: (https://xrptalk.org/topic/1243-got-jed-giveaway/) from being exploited for profit.

111,111,111,111 JED is allocated to wallet address: rHbsMCqYqBvoTRNS6tipdw6kp6g4Lgzz1N

The said wallet will make a sell order of 111,111,111,111 JED at .000001 XRP, also known as the 'drop', the smallest unit of XRP.

The said wallet's name and passphrase will be given to Hurukan (owner of xrptalk), and JaiChai (xrptalk member), two of the most trustworthy members of the Ripple community.

Hurukan and JaiChai have the right to log in and check the activity of the said wallet.

All proceeds of XRP shall be given to activate wallets of people new to Ripple.

The said wallet's sole purpose is to activate new people's wallets by sending them the required 25 XRP.

In order to participate, just click trade and type JED/XRP and make a buy order of JED, the issuer of JED is: rMUVZiUKrcZNqfpgNJRqQjpatGCPZSdrB8. Buy as little as 1 JED and you have already made your contribution to The Got Jed? Initiative.

With all that said, I humbly request all Ripplers to participate in The Got Jed? Initiative. Please spare however much XRP you can give. As little as 1 XRP counts to make our community grow.

Thanks.

Oh, and please do not forget the Got Jed? Giveaway. https://xrptalk.org/topic/1243-got-jed-giveaway/

Thanks again.

note: The Got Jed? Initiative is not exclusive. This initiative will also activate new unfunded wallets in other Ripple forums.

Anyone have any suggestions on which alt-coins to look at? Was mining doge in Jan and now it looks like it's lost a lot of steam. Hasn't been profitable mining doge for weeks now.

You are doing it wrong. You need to pick a new alt coin, start mining it and then post its benefits on every board that mentions bitcoin. The latest crash in value of the alt coins is a clear indication they are not worth anything. Nothing was wrong with the alt coins the bad news was very specific to bitcoin and still they all crashed happily with it.

Getting in Dogecoin, mostly because it's just so early and so dirt cheap.

Plus I like the way they're marketing it as something fun and silly, I can see it taking off somewhat just for the sake of entertainment.

Much profit, very success.

It's pretty much impossible to predict. It could be at $125 tomorrow, or at $15. Last week it was at $6.

I've tried to do this with a few coins, and I'm 2/5. The only thing I know is that we definitely already missed out on the really good part, and that after this rungood is done, there will be a huge correction.

At $75 a piece, the potential swing would be too volatile for me. I might put in 1k just to feel like I'm not totally missing out in case it goes to the moon.

Where the hell do you actually just buy coins? Every exchange I can find are just for change coins for coins but I don't see anywhere (at least anywhere reputable and quick) where you can buy coins for USD.

There are lots of individuals selling coins way above market rate but that sorta defeats the purpose.

that's the thing, there's no fundamentals or anything to base coin value all. it seems to be mostly about hype, which is hard to gauge.

Just from looking at the altcoin section on bitcointalk Auroracoin has some rediculous number of coins premind so the real winner is the person who created it, all these alts are penny stock pump and dumps, there's not going to be many ways to guess which one will be the next winner just randomly guessing and hoping that you get there, pretty crazy though since aurora was trading as low as .03 less than 24 hours ago

The premined are allocated to citizens of Iceland, if they redeem in the next 3 weeks. I'm not sure if the premined get re-allocated any other way.

The way to win is to have a ton of people following your pumps and dump after they get in. If you have that kind of pull, lol @ the fools following you. Otherwise, you are a fish in a game of pumping up turds and watching them fall.

Besides innovative alts, of course.

I don't disagree that having a following is one way to make money with altcoins, keiser has done it with his, but it only lasts for so long once people start realizing what you're doing. fontas is one person who comes to mind, kid was a joke imo and had to start begging people to sign up for his "special" info for x amount of BTC,

I don't even really bother with altcoins other than a select few but many of them are just plain old scams

I fully expect most, if not all, of these alt-coins to crash and burn or just to never take off in any sort of meaningful way. But throwing a couple hundred bucks at one or two for ****s and giggles is fine, if it takes off you could make a good chunk of change.

Anybody investing serious money in them is pretty foolish though.

This is similar to going to a thread on orange juice, penny stocks, bonds, or some other item and announcing that investing in whatever the thing is, it's pretty foolish to put any significant money into.

There is close to $1,000,000,000 in alltcoins. While it is certainly very speculative and full of crap, there is probably some money to be made. I would guess in twelve months the market cap of altcoins will be higher than that and further, that the top ten altcoins have a higher concentration of the money than they do now.
