I think it's fairly obvious to anyone objective a lot of the projects in the top 50, and even top 10, shouldn't belong there:

bitconnect
Iota
Neo
dogecoin

That's not even including the projects I think are just a pile of **** such as XRP, VERGE, GNT bitcoin gold etc etc.

One does not need perspective to realise that bitconnect is a ponzi scheme, neo's gifthub is empty, It is safer to store Iota on an exchange than in their own wallet and dogecoin has 0, yes none at all, gifthub work.

Everyone is making money in a bull market. A lot will even increase the number of bitcoins they own overall (or whatever base currency you're measuring your portfolio in). I think a lot of people are not aware just how manipulated a market like xrp is and they could stand to lose a lot if they fomo buy into currencies after they've pumped.

I swear to God these negative guys only see negative things, while you cry bubble from the side line for the next 3 years, I'll be stacking that digital gold! You will eventually have your told you so moment but, by then, well who cares!
A better strategy for most people is to research and hold good coins rather than trying to trade into the next bitcoin or blockchain 2.0. I mostly agreed with your list of good projects such as OMG, ICON but seems that you've started shilling projects I personally don't think will be at all relevant in 5 years like dgb.

Anyone have any recommendations for a good exchange to trade alt coins on? I'm new to this but want to unleash my inner degen with a small sum of cash. Binance, Bittrex and Bitfinex are all closed to new sign ups.

I'm considering Poloniex as it seems to be a big, well-established exchange with a wide range of coins, but I have no idea really. I'm in the UK if that makes any difference to my options.

Your best bet is to go to coinmarketcap.com and click on coins you're interested in, then click markets and see which ones have volume. Unfortunately bittrex and binance are 2 of the best but sign-ups are closed.

Polo is decent, american based exchange. They have XRP and a lot of other popular coins.

Polo has had a lot of problems in the past, I'm not sure how they are doing right now but prob would choose kucoin over polo.

Thanks - I'll check out Kucoin.

Looking into some of the smaller coins on coinmarketcap, it looks a lot of the time they only trade on one or two exchanges. Is it normal for people who trade these coins to have accounts on a lot of different exchanges so that they have access to all of them?

Basically what you do is come up with an idea to use blockchain tech to improve a certain industry or activity. For example, let's say I've built a system to implement blockchains into all the sewage treatment facilities of the world, saving lots of money for cities and making sewage treatment more efficient, cleaner, cheaper and decentralized.

Of course, my goal is to get rich off of this idea. So what I'll do is create a cryptocurrency called Poopcoin (POO).

The next step is to write up a whitepaper. The purpose of the whitepaper is to convince the rubes that my blockchain tech idea and Poopcoin are one and the same, and because my idea makes sense, this means Poopcoin will have tremendous utility in the future and it's not completely idiotic for people to use a different currency just for sewage treatment related transactions.

The first few paragraphs of the whitepaper is where I spout all kinds of altruistic wishy washy bull**** about how all I want to do is change the world with this technology, and I totally don't care about getting rich. It's important to repeatedly use the buzzwords "blockchain", "decentralization", "platform" etc. and talk about how terrible we are at sewage treatment right now. Make sure to talk about the poors/3rd worlds and how this idea will empower them. Also it's important to say that at least one of the team members is an MIT grad. It's a fact that every single person who ever went to MIT is an autistic skinnyfat neckbeard who only cares about technology and is immune to human desires such as greed and hunger. This adds a strong air of legitamacy and makes it sound like a safe investment and assures the rubes that it can't possibly be a scheme to get rich.

The middle part of the whitepaper is where I explain the boring technology stuff, which no one understands, so it doesn't matter much. Just use a bunch of big words and have diagrams with circles and arrows.

The last part of the whitepaper is a little more tricky. It's where I explain how this particular blockchain based idea is fundamentally tied to Poopcoin, and you couldn't have one without the other. Point out the flaws of Bitcoin and explain why Poopcoin solves all of them. I won't say it directly, but I'll make it clear that once the sewage treatment facilities of the world adopt my idea, POO is gonna go through the ****ing roof, so you better get in now.

With the whitepaper done, then I'll need to get a nice looking squarespace website with pictures of the earth from space and some blurbs about how my idea will change the world. Get on social media and make a cartoon youtube video to explain how it works.

The final phase is ICO --> pump --> dump --> cashout. gg
Dolph Lundgren is clearly the MIT outlier, but you get an A for effort. fwiw there is a $HITcoin already and its up 300% today as well as BULL$HIT coin (both on coinexchange).

I'm not at all clued up with VC's but pay some attention.

With Ripple I watched a video with someone saying the founder will be one of the richest people in the world, Is this just fantasy? surely he cant just cash out as he would crash the market?

Also do you think its right that people who create these coins have such a huge % of them isn't this a little shady?

Being rich on paper is different than having the cash in hand. But I think technically he is. But if he tried to liquidate it the price would crash so he doesn't really have that much.

And yeah it's shady. But we'll have to wait and see how it plays out.

Can someone give me a example of a Coin which has crashed and burned? What is the usual things that make a coin fail?

Do you think that too many new ICOs will cause a overall crypto devaluation and cause people to stick with only the top players?

What are some good places for legitimate, unbiased crypto discussion? The threads on 2p2 are genuinely the best sources that I'm aware of (providing you ignore the crazies). The various crypto communities on Reddit look like they're full of misinformation/shilling/delusion. Are there any good resources out there?

Nope, pretty much gotta sift thru elephant piles of **** between here, reddit and twitter. Everyone is always invested in the "best coin". I'd recommend looking up CoinMastery, Carter Thomas on youtube. He's not too boring and pretty informative about the crypto world and he puts out daily content.
