it has 10 million in cash so the market value is approaching the book.

What are people's thoughts on Berkshire? They have been hoarding cash for a long time and will probably make a bunch of brilliant moves during this crash, however they are also heavily invested in airlines and I don't love their American bank holdings either. I assume their insurance holdings may be hit particularly hard too during this downturn.

Can someone explain to me why I shouldn't buy a bunch of SYF down here?

The recent downturn is just yet another example of why stock buybacks are not shareholder friendly. Executives are poor investors, always repurchasing while the stock price is high, suspend when it is low, and continue to just vaporize shareholder wealth whenever they do so.

Wondering about Live Nation. They have a monopoly on the entire entertainment business. Ticketing, venues, promotors, etc. stock has been absolutely hammered for good reason. I need to do more research....

The investments in Delta, Heinz and Occidental Petroleum are all troubling. The airline and shale businesses may be never be the same. There has to be much better companies to buy that don't hold these dogs. Why not wait to see what Warren uses his cash on and buy them as he does?

Just the price action from mid 30s to now. It was on a slow and steady decline for weeks, even before the CV stuff. But as you and 2k4 pointed out, they have almost the cap in cash.

My cost basis was ~45, but I've bought as close to 15 as I can a few times since that post

That **** expensive af lol. Could see some 1750-2000 leaps truly printing if can get in at the right time though. Looks like not much of a price difference

Because he's buying now and when people see what he bought I may have missed out on 10-20% of the gains?

Thoughts on Magellan? If Boeing fails obviously they would be in trouble too, but planes will still be built and their market cap is half their book and they have little to no debt

TS, you've said that owning precious metals is "pointless". Over the last 5 years gold has returned 39.27%, and the s & p has returned 23%. Not too shabby for a pointless metal! Even assuming if you had a good manager that could bump it to 30%, you'd still be getting beat by gold. Sad!

TS is from an old money family and he FUDs against gold to suppress the price so they have more time to accumulate before the global monetary reset. Being an oligarch he knows damn well that gold is money and everything else is credit.

That is a bit disingenuous as gold is down over the last 8 years and even more over the last 12 years

Yes it was a bit of cherry picking on my part, and I firmly believe there's way more money to made in equity and bond markets, just wanted to throw some shade towards the "useless" statement. No one gets rich from keeping a lump of metal under their mattress.

Hmmm not sure. Does BKNG have the moat the Live Nation has? The ticketing and owning part of the secondary ticketing market alone, alone is a monopoly. Add the ownership of venues, promoters, festivals, labels.

The other one is AEG.

A quick glance shows that LIV has lost money over the last five years while increasing debt load and not increasing book value per share. A monopoly that is unprofitable isn't typically a great play.

How does one construct an all weather portfolio in a future where the FED will basically own the SP 500 and make free market price discovery obsolete? I am thinking one part short term bonds SHY (1-3 year treasury bonds) to cover deflation. One part gold to cover hyperinflation and one part SPY (stagflation?) in case the FED can make corporate fascism work in the long run.

34% SPY or VOO (for expense ratio nits)
33% SHY
33% GOLD

Backtested to 1977 this simple portfolio has a CAGR of 8.20% and a max drawdown of 17%.

Airbus should be interesting once it's clearer how many airlines go bust and order cancellations start coming in en masse

What stocks on the TSE are my fellow Canadians looking to get long in?

I'm looking at T, ATD.B and finally AC for a gambool

It's highly unlikely I'll enter any of these positions before May and might even wait until July or later.
