Hi,

I live in England and haven't played poker online for a while so cashed out the money I had left in my Pokerstars account. I noticed that I got a much better rate than I would have got when I originally put the money in as GBP has depreciated against USD (and pretty much every other currency).

I'm concerned about the risk that Brexit is going to have on the UK economy. I have a few thousand £ to invest but haven't invested in Forex or any other shares before.

Am I right in thinking that putting my money in my Pokerstars account and leaving it there would be a good way to hedge against the UK economy going to sh*t?

Thanks

Why not just buy crypto? Less hassle and now coinbase have a debit card you can use too

I wouldn't say the UsD is guaranteed to out perform the pound so you may lose money with your idea

Switching from something where he may lose a bit of money but is probably +EV to something where he's likely to lose >50% of his money isn't the best idea. It's one thing to suggest this as a moonshot far lower, but crypto is already worth hundreds of billions...the ponzi is within at most an order of magnitude of being tapped out.

OP,
10% on a few thousand dollars in a year doesn't matter. A person who develops an economically valuable talent stacks makes a few thousands dollars per week, every week. Spend your time more productively bettering yourself rather than worrying about small edges on small amounts of money. Best investment advice you'll ever get.

Keeping money in currency is not as good as investing it.

You could pick a country where you think the economy will go well and pick an ETF that mimics that country's economy.

The US has tariffs on China and people are getting scared here in the US as well.

There is an ETF with the ticker VTI which I believe captures all markets across the globe. Take a look at that. My US ETFs have done better than other countries so far, but who knows what the future holds.

Keeping your money in your Pokerstar's account is a bad idea in my opinion. You also risk Pokerstars going under or some event like what happened with the whole Black Friday fiasco.

If you're really focused on sticking with currency instead of stocks, maybe buy Yen. I like stocks better though, because they make more money.

That's VT

VTI is the broad US market
VXUS is the broad international market

VT is simply the combination of the two
