TSLA showing cracks? TSLA showing cracks?

Changes in building codes such as removing wood shake roofs, setbacks between property lines, and access to adequate water pressure for fire sprinklers (mandatory in new CA residential construction) have a lot to do with gradual reduction in house fires. Also, safer lighting (you don't need candles anymore?), heating, and appliances have a lot to do with it as well. I don't think increases in fire fighters has helped that much.

Some material changes, such as using engineered wood I beams instead of dimensioned lumber beams has increased risk of catastrophic structural failure in a fire, resulting in major damages and injury/death. So not all progress is "good".

IRT wild fires that is a completely different discussion.

Yeah, plus the "correlation != causation" argument.

Plus volunteer fire fighters were common decades ago. Now not so much.

I spent some time to check out the firefighter reddit. While most of them admit their job of fighting fires is near extinct, they are happy to move into the business of helping people. They are adamant that they don't just take naps. They are worth the tax dollars and the money is there, you can't just lower taxes and take away jobs. If there is any fire fighters I would be interested in hearing the process of how you get in one of these positions.

Find a fire. Spray water on it. Save the cat from the tree (why do cats need saving from trees? They're good climbers!). Repeat.

Cat's bodies aren't designed to retract backwards. You think their claws just have a reverse on them? You get up a 30 foot tree and you are done for. Not much hope but firefighters or an arborist.

Cats are not that stupid but humans seem to be

Cats are naturally great climbers, quick to escape danger, or to gain a great view. Their curved claws work well to grasp onto the bark of a tree as they climb up, but were not designed to help them easily climb down. Unlike squirrels, cats cannot descend head first.

Honestly its just funny to see how insecure and defensive people get when any public service job is questioned. Namely police, fire fighters, teachers, any government job really where tax payers are forking out large unnecessary pensions. People take comments too seriously.

Firefighters make about 50k though, not 100k.

Are there any that are just firefighters? I think the main job is being an EMT and fighting a few fires on the side.

Family member is a firefighter in California. You need a 4 year degree, EMT training, and 2 years of fire academy. Then you have to grind interviews and get incredibly lucky.

They start around 75k/year before overtime in california, but overtime is $1500/day so clearing six figs your first year on the job is doable.

Almost all firefighters start as EMT's making ~$15 an hour because getting EMT cert is usually the first thing you do. Within a fire house there's a rotating shift of 3-4 guys: the captain, an engineer who drives the truck and two firefighters. Technically all of them are firefighters but engineer/captain are higher ranked and higher pay.

99% of calls are not fire related. Most common call they get are cold/hungry/sick homeless people. Usually they try to get them to a hospital but a lot of the time the hospital rejects them. So the person calls again and trys for a different hospital.

a firefighter in a big city will clear 100k towards end of a career

protip - whenever certain careers tend to leads to multiple generations of families doing it, it usually pays very well relative to the education level required to enter

don't get me started on state police, you can look up the highest paid state employees since that's all public knowledge, top guy is usually a football coach and the top 10 usually filled out by doctors at state run med schools but after that state troopers and sheriffs dominate the ranks - guys get way more than other civil servants

this is also why government it infrastructure and websites suck so much, because their salaries are capped to discard employment

massachusetts one of the few states not to have a coach #1, but then again who's ever heard of Umass in a bowl game or final four since Marcus Camby
http://cthrupayroll.mass.gov/#!/year...0-0-0/trans_no

we have a state police sergeant who cleared over 300k last year, a sergeant... there are 7 ranks higher than sergeant... seargent is the lowest rank where ranks begin to exist above meter maids and beat cops

police/firefighters are incredibly corrupt and full of nepotism at the management/political level, that guy in particular was even under investigation for padding ot forms to make over 300k in previous years as well, apparently it never went anywhere cause he's still doing it https://www.masslive.com/news/2018/0...ice_und_1.html

Can y’all take this stupid derail to the politics forum or something.

How many politicians/regulators does Musk have in his pocket? And how? Is he the next Epstein, or just really good at bullying people and convincing them to throw away all their morals for the Mission?

How are TSLA puts looking nowadays? Tempted to buy in for the bull trap/return to normal, seems like there could be plenty of downslope if everything starts tanking...

None right now. I closed out last week. 100 seems pretty low.

This guy is going to lose a ton of money. I actually feel bad for him. Has 3000 shares of TSLA and is going big into some options strategies he barely understands.

He might get lucky - I lost a little bit selling the 730/725 vertical put spread on tsla - 10 contracts for march 12. I closed them out early though and sold the 590/600 which expired worthless to make the losses back.

Yep this seems to be the latest thing with the TSLA cult. I know my retired friend who knows nothing about options is going to start doing covered calls in the coming weeks and hopes to support himself and kids doing "risk free stuff with TSLA options", aiming for $75K per year. He is already down about $200K in his retirement due to TSLA falling from peak

Guys, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking over the past few weeks. And I mean a LOT of thinking. I like to think of myself as an individual that is open minded and sees both sides of the equation. I look at the bear case, as well as the bull case. I measure the pros and cons of each and try to arrive at an intelligent conclusion.

My original bear thesis primarily focused on the fact that Tesla was overpriced relative to its competitors and also factored in the probability that the company will never reach/exceed the promises it has prognosticated. But allow me to digress from this narrative.

It is clear to me that Elon Musk has read “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. He has a mission and nothing is going to stop that mission... at least in his mind. This should not be underestimated as its power is magnitudes higher than what most people give it credit for.

Secondly, the stock market has shifted to a new paradigm. The old ways of evaluating companies are outdated. More and more the ways of so called “experts” like Warren Buffet and Peter Lynch evaluating stocks are getting weaker and weaker as time goes on. Evolve or die!

Thirdly, the wealth in this world is shifting over to new hands. People like Elon Musk and Chamath Palihapitiya are changing the world. Chamath saying “It doesn’t matter what the number is” suddenly clicked for me and it all makes sense. Stock evaluation has changed open your eyes people! It is comparable to playing a poker hand because of your cards instead of focusing on you opponent. The cards don’t matter and neither does the number. Also, why not listen to people who are extremely wealthy. Clearly they are doing something right.

Fourthly, it is exciting. Why be a Debby Downer in an area with so much innovation, technology, and forward thinking people. I now see Tesla stock not only as a automotive company, but also as a clean energy company. I also see it as a store of value. That last part is KEY! Tesla is a great place to diversify your assets into not only a stock, but a commodity. With the ever-changing dynamics of the stock market atmosphere, Tesla stock has truly become a store of value backed by cars, clean energy, and pure American optimism.

Tesla is like a baby dragon that lost its way. Since no one could find him they never believed he existed until people (aka the economy). While people were ignorant the dragon (Tesla) was getting bigger. Pretty soon he was impossible to ignore. Get woke people!

Conclusively, I have done a complete 180 on Tesla and it is now 25% of my portfolio. (25% of my networth). Anyone who shorts Tesla stock is outrageously immoral.
