i still think short term calls will be good at some point pretty soon here. elon giving his bullshit presentation to investors on battery day on 9/22. do i think he wants to give it to a room full of ppl who just lost 40% of their investment which is in many cases their networth/identity? no i don't

I sure hope so. I'm waiting to unload my $430 Sep 25 calls in anticipation of this.

I'm glad they did not get added to the S&P 500, at least there are still some reasonable people out there realizing what a bad addition a completely over-valued TSLA would be right now, if they did I was going to sell all my funds and make my own S&P 499ish portfolio.

Interesting research on Nikola Motors with some hilarious reads. Musk has created a whole new category of fraud, lies and fake promises that others have ridden to 10s of billion in market cap.

https://hindenburgresearch.com/nikola/

Musk is the fraud champion of course (no one else comes close), but NKLA is an interesting miniature of Tesla.

Lost 40% on a Tesla call I couldn't hold on to yesterday and missed out on 600% gains from selling point. On the NKLA and GM deal, Tesla video makers seem to think it's just Trevor doing anything to keep his company alive so he gets a 223m payout in 2023 if he is still with the company. It seems crazy that you need to give 2b to have the right to pay GM "cost plus" as well as an additional 700m for R and D/factory stuff so they can build it. Nikola basically agreed to pay whatever GM needs to charge to build these trucks. Seems like a horrible business move but it was probably their only move and they had no bargaining chips.

I guess GM is putting their reputation on the line and will look bad when this inevitably doesn't happen. They can sell 1/3 of their 2b stake 1 year before they start producing the badger truck.

I don't know, I could not imagine buying a truck with the Nikola name on it. Maybe if I knew GM did 100% of it themselves, but if Nikola touches it, I don't think I could buy it.

GM stock went up 8% from the NIKOLA deal and the only thing GM got was "brand value". Seems like a good spot to short GM now.

They also got 2b in stock that they can start selling in about a year, plus a blank cheque for cost to build these trucks. No capital risk on their part.

+1 great read

the founder made a 2m30s video which "surprisingly" didn't address any of the questions, instead attacking hindenburg research pretty similarly as the article described him attacking others criticising NKLA or him. Then he said he'll answer everything in a few hours, before answering none of the questions and saying it actually takes rest of the day to answer all the claims

Gonna be fun following this going down

edit: He did address one of them!
Q: "There needs to be some clarity provided about nkla's battery and hydrogen tech and where it will be used. I'm a huge fan; the announcement that gm would be providing both caught me off guard even if it was savings. I feel like my badger is basically a GM now"

A: "100% a badger. We will use common parts for example; tires, window regulators, hvac, brakes & batteries to drive down cost, but the badger is completely a badger. The infotainment, displays, software, ota, app, cab, interior, user experience, sales, service, warranty etc is ours"

Nice job hiding the batteries in there, and no worries, your cars will have 100% original... infotainment (displays), ota, app, software... sales, warranty, service... cab, interior? That's like three different things! Article debunked

If Tesla's taught us anything, it'd be a selling point if service and warranty were handled by GM.

Regarding the news, it seems Tesla intend to produce RHD Model 3 in China for export to UK(not EU any longer so no EU tariffs anyway), Australia, Japan and Singapore(!).

Bear: Low demand for 3 in China
Bull: High demand for Y in America

yeah, let's speculate as to how this could actually be good news.
it's not like the chinese government confirmed the most obvious reason right there in the tweet...

wonder what's going on behind the scenes there.

definitely sounds super positive to me. China market expansion obviously is going gangbusters

Aren't they building more production in Texas and Germany? If they are selling China cars in EU, where are they going to sell Germany cars?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

freemont is barely running at half of promised capacity.

there was another global times article a few weeks ago, where they argued for mic m3 price to be cut by 25% to meet factory capacity.
the contracts in china force them to increase production there.

UK is not EU. Berlin cars are for EU. China exports has lower import duties to Australia, Singapore, UK etc so maybe the most simple explanation is that Tesla want to minimize import duties. Also most RHD countries happen be be near China.

if we start making up our own explanations instead of believing the official ones, why not go even more bullish?

i think they need the china cars to meet huge demand on other planets.
