I know there was an Uber thread on here but I can't find it. Interesting to see them buy Otto and announce the beginning stages of autonomous ride sharing in Pittsburgh.

Why? They've obviously been on this path for years.

Interesting in the sense, I think Tesla is worth significantly less now. Gg.

The also announced a non exclusive deal with Volvo for 100 autonomous cars.

If Tesla can produce half a million cars by 2020, then Uber CEO Travis Kalanick will buy them all for his service, according to venture capitalist Steve Jurvetson.

Jurvetson, a Tesla board member and partner in the VC firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson, was speaking at the recent Top 10 Tech Trends dinner, put on by the Churchill Club, when he relayed a conversation he'd had with Kalanick about his hopes for "robocars" and the future.

"Travis recently told me that in 2020, if Telsas are autonomous, he'd want to buy all of them. He said all 500,000 of estimated 2020 production, I'd want them all," Jurvetson said. "But he couldn't get a return call from Elon."
I'd say it's still open to who is gonna get the orders from Uber and Tesla are still in the race.

The most pertinent fact is that Musk didn't bother to return the call. Uber has also received a lot of strategic investment from car companies in the time since that quote. I'd say they are solidly behind the pack.

But yes, they do have a chance.

Cool, the world's fastest production car today. The faster ones were $1M+, limited series, 2 seater, no luggage and noisy.

I like his outrageous lie of it paying for the Model 3.
TSLA showing cracks? Quote

It did kind of help pay for the model 3. They were never trying to earn a profit, just contribute to their overall costs while learning and being able to scale up to make an affordable car. The cash burn would have been much, much larger if they just decided to make the model 3 at the start, not to mention the much higher probability of the model 3 being a complete disaster.

You guys need to make up your minds, are investments into Model 3 a loss per sold Model S or are Model S sales actually profitable?!

90D imo.

Space X explosion, Musk stocks sink, no comment in the last 2 days?

Funny how a successful space x launch moves tsla up $2 for like a day, but an explosion knocks it down $10.

Guess I was wrong that TSLA would hold above $210. Although the QQQs were 2 pts higher when I made the comment

You post a lot of dumb things in this thread slobbing Musk. Please explain why they are raising money.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

I expect another silly non-sequitur similar to your last post about ability to stay in the center of the lane which was a total fabrication btw.

I don't think the explosion had anything to do with the price drop, but instead today's announcement that TSLA needs take on more debt and/or offer more shares to handle the ridiculous SCTY acquisition and dilute shareholder value further.

They got a lot of more reservations of the Model 3 than they expected. Thus they decided to increase production capacity by investing heavily into large production capacity and move the schedule forward. This required massive investments.

They also likely decided that there were demand for other types of vehicles such as pickups, semis and buses, thus they decided to start developing these kind of vehicles. This also required investments.

Fast growth by investing heavily has been Tesla's strategy and should not surprise anyone.

Define the propbet and I will consider it. Here is a video of a Tesla driving 728km on a single charge:

elon should just be honest for once and raise 6-10bil.
that's what the big car companies spend on yearly r&d, and that's what he's going to need year after year to compete in every niche he wants to compete in.
maybe then people will see what a pile of burning cash this company is.

So I see that you have backtracked from your prior stance of supporting what Elon actually said. Congrats. That isn't insane. What Elon said was obviously insane.

The estimates for driving those distances are "normal" driving situations. Driving your Tesla like you stole it or testing it out at the track will wear the battery down much faster. But sure, its not misleading to juxtapose a 2.9s 0-60 next to a range estimate that doesn't include that sort of driving behavior.

Are you suggesting that the graphic should show the range while doing drag strip runs? Do you consider this graphic misleading for stating a 0-60 of 6.2 and 22mpg city?

I'm pretty sure listing 0-60 for max acceleration and efficiency for normal driving is standard. I would guess this Mercedes gets about 4 mpg during max acceleration but I have never seen anything like that advertised for any car.

Tesla Q3 2016 Production and Deliveries

Tesla delivered approximately 24,500 vehicles in Q3, of which 15,800 were Model S and 8,700 were Model X. This was an increase of just over 70% from last quarter’s deliveries of 14,402. Our Q3 delivery count should be viewed as slightly conservative, as we only count a car as delivered ifit is transferred to the customer and all paperwork is correct.

In addition to Q3 deliveries, about 5,500 vehicles were in transit to customers at the end of the quarter. These will not be counted as deliveries until Q4.

Production rose to 25,185 vehicles in Q3. This was an increase of 37% from Q2 production of 18,345.

We expect Q4 deliveries and production to be at or slightly above Q3, despite Q4 being a shorter quarter and the challenge of delivering vehicles in winter weather over holidays. Guidance of 50,000 vehicles for the second half of 2016 is maintained.

Finally, we note that starting in Q3, our quarterly financial releases will no longer include non-GAAP revenue and related financial metrics resulting from vehicles leased through our banking partners or that include resale value guarantees. We will, however, continue to provide additional supplemental information to investors to provide insights into our business.

Sad that meeting forecasts is "good" news.

Wonder what ridiculous accounting they will be releasing in the future.
