It went up $85 on demand death being nowhere near as bad as it could have been, not "pure air". Tesla could have been done for last quarter if Q1's horrible sales death continued, that's why the stock sold down so heavily. As Q2 dragged on and it became clear that while things were still bad, demand was sufficient for death not to be imminent, it ran back up off lows. It all seems quite rational to me.
Agreed that the prickly narcissist has the ability to screw the pooch on the CC though, Enron/Skilling style. I think the China pump is pretty solid however (the pump, not the reality).
