I think everyone is missing a key point. This isn't for poor people. Regular people will still be stuck in traffic with ****ty mass transit options upstairs. The tunnel will be for relatively small amounts of wealthy people to skip traffic. But he's gotta sell it to the masses. Taxpayers will probably pay for it too.

I don't know much of anything about Musk's magical tunnels.

But I do know that his cars get heavy govt subsidies, his solar panels get heavy govt subsidies, and his rocket company works directly with tax dollars.

It is no coincidence that he would be getting into another industry that relies on heavy government support/tax brakes/incentives/etc. The economics of any tunnel depend on the fed/state/local money. This is Musk's specialty.

There is no Tom Mueller of SpaceX without Elon Musk. There are tons of businesses with a “real” genius.

There was a post awhile ago (near when I started to pay attention to Tesla) of a new buyer that had a bunch of production issues with his car. His response was that it was fine because he budgeted getting things like the paint fixed after delivery.

It’s also not hard to build cars people love when a big segment of the market is delusional enough to think it’s reasonable to budget for repairs on your brand new 50k(?) car.

Obviously not to the same extent as Tesla but BMWs, and some models of Mercedes-Benz are pretty infamous for relatively low reliability. Consumer Reports consistently put these two brands near the worst for their maintenance and repair costs over 10 year time frame.

Tesla will probably top Them both.

Tesla's November numbers for Norway were bad. Last year sold 996, this year 445. Jaguar sold 366 compared to 34 prior year. The ipace is hurting Tesla.
