I love the mentality - "guys, guys we can survive being a $42billion company for now, BTFD"

Meanwhile it's falling off a cliff. The CDS shows > 50% chance of a credit event within 5 years. If there is a credit event that means not even debt holders get all their money back so equity holders get 0. People should be looking at the CDS/Bond prices, it tells a much worse story than even the dropping stock price.

Not sure why anyone is blaming the shorts. If they had listened to the shorts they wouldn't have invested their life savings in the first place.

Hopefully not a derail but with respect to the Australia battery thing, how come Panasonic themselves didn't do the installation? What does Tesla offer that Panasonic cannot?

Tesla mega-battery in Australia activated

Quote:
Tesla has partnered with Panasonic on the development and production of its Powerpack technology. Despite this, it partnered with Samsung on the Southern Australia facility because Panasonic could not produce the required batteries within the tight deadline.

Tesla will soon be facing stiff competition from power firms. Next year, a battery storage facility 50% larger than Tesla's in Australia will be turned on in South Korea. Chinese firms and many other renewable energy firms are also installing many battery storage systems for power suppliers around the world.

Tesla bought the cells for the Australia project from Samsung and the project had a gross margin of 0. Hardly an example of energy storage leadership...

Not debating this point at all. Was more addressing the point TS was making about battery tech not having any possibility of turning a profit.

Even if renewables end up levelling off due to scaling and other issues, there will still be excess energy from baseload generation that can be shifted. At some point batteries will be cheap enough to make it profitable to shift at least predictable demand. The batteries would essentially replace some of the natural gas peak plants.

Macquarie out with $430 price target with "Outperform" and some bull**** about "vehicle ecosystems". God bless the analysts. Barely pumped it up 1%.

It's weird having the stock tank day after day and not have Musk himself come in with an absurd pump about production or profits that the baggies believe. He must be beside himself not being able to commit fraud any more to keep the stock price up.

that analyst should have said $420, no sense of humor.

Musk is a great salesman.
And maybe the politicians thought they'd get better coverage of virtue signalling headlines with Musk. That was before he started hanging out with Azelia, basing imaginary privatization prices on the fact his GF likes 420, and accusing hero's of being a pedo.

What is the guarantee and lifespan of the batteries?

SEC and Tesla submitted a statement to a judge detailing why their previously agreed-upon settlement should be approved. The decision is due on the 10/10, I believe.

Do we think the judge's approval/rejection is a significant binary event for the stock price? $TSLAQ seems to think Musk's latest tweets will drive the SEC or the approving judge to revoke the settlement.

I think it might have a positive effect on price that day, but thats about it

Judge not approving would be really bad. Judge approving is a near certainty so nothing happens.

Yeah I'm not sure the judge decision is actually significant in any way. Maybe I'm conflating the possibility of a SEC settlement retraction resulting from Musk's latest round of tweets with the "judge decision."

Let me rephrase the question, what are the chances that one week from now the SEC settlement as we know it still holds? whether from the SEC being butt-hurt and pulling out or the judge amending terms etc

The SEC settlement will happen, it's a done deal. It's the Justice department that will make news, but that will be a few months away.

I'd be very surprised if anything comes out of that investigation. DOJ and SEC tend to defer to each other once a settlement has been reached. They probably keep the file open and will warn TSLA against some behavior (such as by making a thinly veiled threat of litigation if Musk doesn't muzzle his mouth) but it's highly unlikely they have more than a couple junior lawyers putting in significant time on this.

This is not true at all. Martha Stewart settled with the SEC (paid a big fine, and was forced to step down from her company for 5 years) and the DOJ still went after her.
