Yep, Elon is truly Trump for nerds. This is what Trump does with left wingers. I daresay Elon might even have learned from his intellectual/business better (Trump).

And it "seems fine" that they need to build another structure outside, because it's "impossible" to hit even 5000/week using the existing factory? How, pray tell, were they going to make 10,000/week by the end of the year? The position of the bears was that this was impossible and Musk was lying since they weren't going to build another factory and had no space at Fremont. Musk confirmed lying again? There's a shock.

It's a very sturdy tent and Musk isn't the first to use such tents as factories on a semi-permanent basis.

You're getting trolled if you're making a big deal out of it.

Doesn't he tell the world on a weekly basis that they have the 'biggest factory in the world'?! Now they need a tent for a third line?!

I really want to be a fly on the wall at board meetings of Toyota, GM or Daimler when they laugh their asses off about this ****show...

Right bro. Cause the issue of whether it's a tent or not - Elon's word, not mine - is the gist of the criticism, not the fact that their line are so bad that the factory is full at a horrible run rate, and they're making ad hoc non robot hand lines in makeshift buildings to try and ramp up to a level promised 6 months ago.

Do you lube up for Elon or does he bring his own?

Someday, when Tesla is gone and students use them as a case study in business school textbooks, they will look at the images of the tent and the tweets and scream out "AND PEOPLE BELIEVED THEM?!!!"

Tesla seems like a complete cluster**** which is a huge shame since they are making amazing vehicles and helping to galvanize the entire electric automobile sector. They should probably go into bankruptcy, get rid of all that debt and then slowly ramp up production to the best of their ability, and stop apparently lying about production numbers.

Absolutely not. Musk makes no difference to the long term development of electric cars.Viable mass market electric cars depend on battery cost, which is a research industry not driven by Musk's minuscule taxpayer funded contribution to demand. But imagine if the $5 billion in taxpayer funds Musk has sucked up and spread on wastefully making sports cars for rich people went directly to low level battery research? That could possibly have an effect.

Besides, other car makers are making a million EVs/year and have been steadily growing exponentially for over a decade. Musk is irrelevant. Selling yourself as the savior of the world and the disruptor of a burgeoning industry is classic PR.

They're making a million pure BEVs alone! With substantive hybrids (like the Prius or 530e) they'll make about 1.7 million in total this year.

If you include all electrified drivetrains (i.e. hybrids with small batteries with small range but nonetheless battery powered for part of their driving), Toyota alone - a single company - made 1.5 million cars with electrified drivetrains.

The notion that Tesla are disrupting the industry or driving its growth is absurd. Sans Tesla, everything would look nearly the same. They'd still be growing on the same exponential rate of 40%/year they have been since 2000, they'd still be poised for an explosion around 2021 or so when cost parity is reached due to battery advances, and they become forever cheaper than ICE. Tesla have achieved absolutely nothing but wonderful sports cars for the 1% paid for on the public dime.

~400,000 EVs a year have been sold so far in 2018, the entire industry isn't on track to sell a million a year.

right right right but if you count cars with internal combustion engines then tooth sayer is correct

Why are all the bears so uninformed? There will be 1.9 million plug in EVs sold this year

Of which roughly 60% are BEVs. China alone, last year, sold 650,000 pure BEVs last year, a number that's growing at > 50%/year. China by itself will reach 1 million BEV sales this year, very few of which are Tesla.

Besides the original statement which Spurious claimed was made up was this:
Quote:
Besides, other car makers are making a million EVs/year and have been steadily growing exponentially for over a decade
And the plug in hybrids are certainly EV cars in that they have electric drives and move forward EV development. But I don't even need that - pure BEVs alone get it over a million this year, sans Tesla.

Can we please ban every politics forum regular from BFI? They're universally ****ty, low intelligence posters who clog up threads with trash and provide zero insight or analysis. It's one thing to be right/adding content and snarky, but to be dead wrong all the time and snarky is just dribble.

Really, any car with a starter battery should be considered an EV.

Again, 1.2 million pure BEVs will be sold this year, so you're flat out wrong, as usual, and don't know what you're talking about
If we include ones that have large batteries and plug in but are hybrids, 1.9 million will be sold this year
If we include ones with electric drive trains and drive batteries and shorter range, about 9 million will be sold this year.

As to your reply, I repeat:

I guess you're too stupid to even realize you're wrong, or understand a graph. Why give snark when you're proven dead wrong? You just make yourself like a total wanker. Congrats, I guess.

If 1.2 million BEVs are being sold this year, there aren’t multiple companies selling a million a year as you claimed, even given your silly BEV vs EV equivocation.

The wording was kind of ambiguous even though it’s pretty obvious what he meant.

Might not be quite 1m if you excluded hybrids and didn’t count 2018 projections but it’s close enough to not dwell on.

What are you talking about? We started the year with car makers making at a rate 1 million pure EVs (BEVs) a year. We will end the year with car makers making at a rate of 1.4 million pure EVs (BEVs) a year. Current rate of production is around 1.1 million/year pure BEVs a year excluding Tesla.

The statement is correct in even its narrowest interpretation, which, considering we were talking about the development of electric cars (motors, drive trains, batteries), of course includes hybrids with large batteries and electric drive trains. Trolly et al are just stone cold morons from the politics forum who tard up this thread.

We were talking about the extent to which Musk was instrumental in moving forward global EV growth. I said other car makers already make over a million electric cars/year growing at 40%/year - a true statement and previously discussed. Spurious lost his mind and then you came in outdoing him. It's true for BEVs by themselves and since we're talking about moving electric cars forward (batteries and electric drives) of course hybrids are part of the argument.

Blatant lie? You're legit unhinged at this point. Like seriously, take a break. You're going full ******. Anyone can go back and read the conversation.

I offered you a bet on another thing you called a lie - crickets. We know who the coward is here - it's you. A politics forum regular who just tards up threads. So desperate to throw shade because you lose every argument - but you've gone way too far here and shown that you're just legit unhinged. Well done.
