Re: The Shark Tank

Why would the guy with the "fart candle" not go to spencer's and get a deal with them....seem's right up their ally.

i also thought his other scents were pretty creative. he was like the jelly belly of candles. you're telling me they couldn't give him $50k and get those in stores all over the country? you dont think some douches would buy football candles for their apartments?

There is no patent and little barrier to entry for his product. It's too easy for candle companies with established infrastructure to copy his idea and take over his market. Not only that, but he hand pours the candles. He has no infrastructure set up to actually mass produce them nor does he have enough current sales to make the mass production necessary or viable. Staying away from his idea was probably a good bet considering it would take huge amounts of money for the appropriate marketing and infrastructure needed to launch his product, and not much of a guarantee that he will have the sales to cover the costs or that competitors won't notice the product and release their own line.

Re: The Shark Tank

Just googled and found two different companies selling these (one being the shark tank guy), and other articles that suggest someone else entirely invented the first man-scented candles.

Re: The Shark Tank

Just watched all 6-7 episodes so far. Latest was best of the bunch so far. Pretty hit or miss, I find myself fast forwarding pretty often. Series needs Cuban on there full time. Why is Barbara on the panel - seems like she adds little/no value... if O'Leary is Simon than Barbara is Paula Abdul.

Thought this was pretty interesting. Seems like they put way too much weight on prior year revenue on the valuation, is this all a co-opetition type negotiating tactic? They can't possibly be this short-sighted. Does anyone have any good links for a noob like me regarding start-up valuation?

They didnt invent it and may just have marketed it. You cant invent a new scented candle as you can not patent it

I like Cuban also he doesnt give a rats ass about the other guys just himself

Does anyone know where I can watch the new episodes of Shark Tank online? I don't mind paying for it. Some sites won't let me as it is only in US.

Re: The Shark Tank

Cat toilet training sells 40,000 units with zero advertising and the uncharismatic shoe lady does $20M in sales, but considers it a hobby and still considers herself a pharmacist! WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON HERE....

...also, I was totally in the "O'Leary is hammin up the dick persona for TV", but after he totally bombed on the maternity t-shirt lady and kept going after she was clearly visibly upset pretty much soldified that he is in actuality a total dickhead. I would refuse to take any offer from him, even it was the best, out of principle.

Ya, that shoe lady, wtf was going on there 30% profit margin, and 4 million in gross sales....yet she is still a pharmacist? The concept was great, but something just didnt add up.

Re: The Shark Tank

ive watched almost every show now and am the only one who thinks barbra is kinda a vc fish, imo she is easily the weakest investor out of the 5, of the stuff she invests in on her own usually seems like a poor decision

Re: The Shark Tank

I think Kevin is the worst investor. He just offers insulting lowball offers with vague unsubstantiated claims that his expertise will make up for the ridiculous amount of excess equity that he wants compared to his fellow sharks offers. Seems like the only people dumb enough to accept his offers are people you don't really wanna be investing in.

I've only seen like 3 or 4 episodes and don't have a great memory for what deals have been struck and by whom though.

Re: The Shark Tank

fwiw i have a great dislike for kevin and would never partner with him because he would def stab a partner in the back and screw him the first chance he got, however, I think hes def more profitable than barbara because hes good at extracting value from fish (granted hes very borderline in how he does it)

Re: The Shark Tank

Kevin is there purely for the entertainment value. He invests in almost nothing, compared with both the American sharks and the Canadian dragons.
