I got the Fizzics the other day and finally put it together today. First impression of it is that it's pretty good.
I'm not sure why some of the Amazon reviewers were saying that it is flimsy, as it seems relatively well built. The only part that I might consider subject to breaking is the tap lever on top , though I'd say that I could avoid breaking that by not getting completely ****-faced.
It was easy to put together. Assembly only took about 5 minutes.
My first pour was with a Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. You hold the glass at a 60 degree angle and pour the glass about two-thirds full, then place the glass flat and move the lever backwards for the remainder of the pour.
I actually messed this one up by not reading the instructions, and I did the second step of the pour without placing the glass flat. I think that I ended up with too thick of a head. Even so, the beer had a nice, smooth, creamy head.
I had used too small a glass for this first pour, so there was a beer left in the bottle. I poured the remainder of the beer but didn't have enough in the bottle to do the second step. So this was like I had poured the beer from a bottle without using the device. You can clearly see the bubbles and the lack of cohesion in the head, and the taste was definitely different.
Next up was a New Belgium Tangerine. This time I actually followed the instructions. 🙄
I don't know if it's evident from this picture, but the beer foam looked thick and almost like chocolate milk as it was coming out of the spout.
I was treated to a beer with a sweet and smooth head.
The only possible downside that I noticed is that this device seemed to take a bit of the edge off of the Dogfish Head, as some Amazon reviewers noted is the case with IPAs.
Only time will tell, but my initial impression is that the Fizzics is going to be a nice addition to my drinking and entertaining repertoire.
EDIT TO ADD: I saw on Amazon at least a couple of other devices that are competitors to this device. I have never used any of those devices or even heard of them for that matter, so I have no comparison as to how the Fizzics stacks up to the competition.
