For real? He's incredibly smart. And he's infinitely smarter than the person currently occupying that office.

Cuban is the luckiest guy of all time. Basically took a crap in a box and got lucky they somebody bought it

To be fair to Cuban, at the time, crap in a box was quite in demand - especially if it put out news releases that mentioned Linux.

He calls everyone a gold digger which is exactly what got him rich.

Lol if you are referring to the last episode, what that lady was trying to do doesn't seem even close to what Cuban did in terms of "gold digging"

Last edited by xnbomb; 10-12-2017 at 11:48 PM. Reason: as in she was legit gold digging by going on the show

idk if i like the name iceshaker or gronkshaker

how is iceshaker not the exact same golddigging for which they ripped that lady apart? Double standards because they're famous?

Solemender was another kid deal which surprised me that it didn't get a deal. They should make it harder for kids to get on if the sharks are super unlikely to go into business with them...

Lock guy was fantastic. I think he was already tired of his boring lock and just wanted to offload it for some money and get on with the next thing. Wonder why he was fired, he seemed very eager to do a good job, and not stupid.

I think the biggest difference re:gold digging is he was up front about it. He doesn't need the money, he said what he was looking for more was someone to help him build a team. That wasn't how the woman was portrayed.

they did a deal. by definition you aren't a gold digger if you make a deal. gold diggers just want to be on the show as a form of advertisement

Yeah, it wasn't at all similar and was in fact pretty much the exact opposite for relevant purposes. They didn't need the $, but they genuinely wanted a shark's (or sharks') expertise. It's the ideal situation for a mutually beneficial arrangement.

The meditation app company, while also not actually needing $, had no actual interest in getting a deal (iirc they couldn't even articulate what value a shark would add) but wanted to exploit being on the show for exposure. Their pitch served no purpose other than, as Mark said, being a commercial for potential customers to get familiar with their product. It was abundantly obvious and that's why Mark minced no words calling her a gold digger. Mark and Daymond were upset because they took the slot of a company that would actually be looking to make a deal with a shark.

They did a deal at the valuation they were asking for (only diff being 5% more equity being sold). Meditation app never got that type of offer. I don't think it's fair to say that she would never have closed at the valuation she asked, because we simply don't know.

Tbh I appreciate that I clearly have a different opinion but I don't see the big difference between the 2:
*Iceshaker didn't need any money since his family is rich. They wouldn't need to raise external capital at any realistic point.
*His family didn't need to leverage the show to gain access to strategic connections. They are sports celebs who surely can get access to various venture capital experts with 2 or 3 phone calls. They could get Cuban's attention without the show without an issue, to give a simple example.
*Iceshaker is not the type of company that realistically will need to go through various investment rounds like is the standard in the tech world.

*Meditation app had raised money covering +12 months of operations iirc. While this surely is a healthy buffer, it's totally not unheard of when companies raise significantly more, especially if they have rapid growth targets. It's also highly unlikely that this was the company's last funding round. The only disadvantage with raising money now would be they would likely be able to get better valuation after waiting a year. Obv still a very important disadvantage.
*Meditation app already had strategic connections via its prior investors but did not have clear access to "any type of strategic investor" imo. So Shark Tank was a good way to get access to strategic investors, both directly (the sharks) and indirectly (getting name out there to other investors who watch the show).

I do agree that Iceshaker being fully upfront about it is important, but imo both pitches did what they were supposed to do:

Meditation app is not the type of pitch where opening up with "btw, don't need yo money because..." would have gone over well. Icheshaker it was obvious from the start and it was an essential part of the pitch (=if he didn't reveal who his brothers were he would not have gotten the same deal).

Lol Mark's face when Sacca made the Mavericks jab in the last episode (second of the two "new" ones).

In other news, the deal between Mark and the kids' classes startup fell apart post-show.

My DVR flushed the new episodes with re-run recordings. Does anyone know if these are anywhere on demand / online / whatever?

I think all content from S8 has to have a story tied to it related to this. It's weird how they just roll out S8 content without any clarification. I guess there's someone new high up that saw they were not airing pitches that made decent tv because of whatever reason (deal falling apart, company not doing well between time of taping & airing,...) and they are adding them in?

Second S8 content ep made me hate Chris Sacca. He's just a egotistical bully. And he doesn't own it, either. Glad he's not returning.

I love this show, but the more I watch it the angrier I get at how greedy these sharks are. They should call it The Pig Pen. People make reasonable requests for 10% and these ridiculous sharks counter them at half their company for some pithy amount of $$$. Most of them will NEVER negotiate down an inch (Robert...), they constantly talk out of their ass when saying why they're out (Barbara...), they collude with one another, and they always try to invent reasons why people's evaluations are too high so they can gobble up more of the entrepreneur's livelihood. Mark is fair a lot of the time but even he can be prone to unreasonable greed.

But of course the guests are much to blame as well, for being dumb and accepting terrible offers. I've actually seen multiple people take Kevin's royalty deals!!! And I couldn't count the number of times one of them had a chance to counter successfully at the end but instead just said "lets do it"... All in all a very frustrating experience because I always want the best for these hard working average Joes and it sucks watching them get ripped off by these wealthy scumbags the way they do.

don't feel bad for anyone who gets on the show, they know the deal and how the sharks work. Its their decision to take a deal or not, not the sharks faults if they accept

Tide pods for protein powder was one of he best ideas in the last couple of years.

Does it make the powder dissolve well and taste good? Those are the two things I hate about protein powders.

No idea. I'm an old who's never used protein powder. The concept seemed like a winner though and I wish I'd thought of it. I'm pretty sure they're made of the same gelatin that capsules are made from. I think it's less about the powder and more about the delivery system. I'd imagine they'll be licensing this tech to everyone with a good tasting powder as well as ****ty tasting powder.
