I was just watching this as well noticing the Hang Seng had moved 2.77% lower and European markets are all down 1.5% to 2.5%. I'll go to sleep now with US futures down 2% and then between now and the time I wake up Trump will tweet that he and President Xi are great friends and then I'll wake up to the markets opening up a percent higher.

Trump is probably going to be firing shots at everyone this morning. President Xi is talking tough on Taiwan (ie it will be part of China, will use military force if necessary). Romney just blasted Trump's character. Pelosi regarding the shutdown. Only person that may be safe from Trump tweets today is Kim Jong Un. Markets will not like.

The fed came in and mega pumped it last week. US economy remains strong too.

Whether the bear is over depends on whether the global economy is actually entering the recession phase or not. Your guess is as good as mine. PMI at 10am was very encouraging today with just a slight miss, that was a worrying number with a few big misses the last few data points. Market liked it.

2 things will matter most in the short term: trade war progress & earnings.
If there is no trade war resolution and crucial companies miss and/or guide down, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.
We already got a taste of the latter with Fedex and Apple, and that both mentioned the first issue a lot is no coincidence.

well S&P is at 2,600, although it did hit a low of 2360 or so near christmas time, looks like OP's ability to predict the future may not have fully developed just yet

There is some wisdom that can be gleaned from "experts" but it can be tedious to wade through all the bull****. Every single year there are people calling for a stock market crash. Harry Dent has been calling for Dow 3000 since 2013. Sometimes he ups it to Dow 6000...it's hard to keep track but either way a massive collapse.

For some reason he's still allowed on the news. I guess because his message resonates with the masses. Video comments when he appears on Fox Business are hilarious. People take what he says as gospel like he's some sort of soothsayer and they get very upset when the hosts disagree with him or talk over him lol
