Hi, I'm starting a new retirement fund in Ireland and I'm curious about other people's opinions on how to allocate my funds. I'm late twenties so I'm going 100% equities. This is through my employer, and I'm limited in my options (they're pretty terrible fwiw)

These are the only two 100% passive equity funds

Indexed Global Equity Fund
Factsheet

Indexed Eurozone Equity
Factsheet

I'm thinking of just going 100% world fund.

I'm not seeing the fees. What are the fees on the two plans? If they aren't different I guess I go world... but honestly these options are pretty awful. I don't think they have 401k's in Ireland... So what are the advantages of doing this through your employer?

Tax advantages + employer contributions.

Can put in a % of gross income, and it grows tax free.

I agree the options look awful. If you are in your 20s and really are going to leave this money invested until retirement you should be looking at over weighting small caps and emerging markets. I do not know how the financial system in Ireland works. Can you not have the money transferred to somewhere where you can choose from a wider range of investments?

I can but this is the only way for me to get employer contributions is to do it through their company scheme.

Options as a whole are pretty terrible though, one of the drawbacks of being in a small expensive country.

There's no small cap, and the only emerging markets fund charges another .7% in fees, so 1.45% total.

There's also a bid spread on the EM fund, so you lose 5% every time you put money in, which is awful compared to most retail investments nowadays. It used to be standard 10+ years ago (UK).

It's not the worst fund apart from that tbh and I would still take it into your portfolio given your choices but not one that I would pick if I had free choice of everything out there.

Only put in the absolute minimum to achieve the employer match. Anything above that open a SIPP yourself to get a much larger choice of funds and lower fees.

Yep that's my plan. I have my own fund outside of this.

How long does it take for you to vest employer contributions?
