Do you know any worth podcasts to subscribe , about business/trade/economy?
I listen to few free pods from Itunes. Unfortunatly I am a beginner and not sure how reliable those podcast are.
So If you know anything worth to have on mp3, give a link please;-)

There is still a tiny chance I get an internship with this Options MM place, so I haven't read the book mentioned before.

Just wanted to mention I am waiting for my Natenberg, but McMillan has been quite good on his options books that I've been reading.

So I haven't compared him to Natenberg yet, but if you're in need of an Options book and the library doesn't have Natenberg, McMillan has been pretty easy for me to understand so far.

i want to read specifically about asset allocation, i didnt find anything when i searched through this thread. any recs would be appreciated, thanks.

i have a finance degree from umd so go from there.

im loving natenberg's book right now. only one small thing: there is a typo in his name on the side of the cover, natenburg, instead of natenberg. i have the hardcover version. maybe im being nitty, but it kinda sucks

in the recommended reading section, he names a few advanced books as well. but im having a tough time finding info about them

I'm searching for a book that'll help me invest as a lazy investor who essentially wants to buy now and sell in a few years.

I'm truly pissed at the fact that many/most mutual funds or ETFs essentially have fixed stocks/bonds assets percentage... Buying say 40% of a bond index ETF and 60% of a stock index ETF seems uterly ******ed too since at some times bonds won't be good and some times stocks won't be good... Is there any good ETF that will have both bonds and stocks without the manager being affraid of changing the bond% from 70% to 25% within a year?

Isn't the point of ETF's is that they're not managed, and more automated to weigh itself with whatever the defining asset class is?

the thing is, I'm canadian, but looking for US funds.

Being Canadian, I cannot buy US mutual funds and so I must buy ETF's (or other stock/bonds, etc.)

Art, did you manage to find any reading material on using statistics to optimize online marketing / affiliate market stuff?

There's a number of routes you can take, but for something practical I'd take a look at options theory and use that as your basis. Check out:

I initially came looking for investment books but I got a little sidetracked as I see you mentioned the following programming books:

Code Complete, 2nd Edition and Pragmatic Programmer

Programming has always been something I'd want to get into. I'm basically a beginner I have played with a small bit of programming (vb) but not much at all. I just downloaded your other recommendation think python to have a read.

Basically the idea is to write a program that scrapes sportsbook websites and betfair etc and looks for price discrepancies so I can do some arbitrage betting. Its more about being able to create such a program then the betting itself (that's just something that interests me) so it'd keep me motivated.

Will these books let me accomplish this type of program, or are there any other recommendations specifically to this sort of program?

You'll have to learn the foundations of programming, once you do that you can begin to write a scrapper, depending on how complicated it is. It helps if the sites you're scrapping from have an API (yahoo finance does, for eg).

Code Complete is about all sides of the process of software creation, but its a great way to open your eyes to the types of thinking you should have when designing systems.

As for your specific task, Python + urllib + beautifulsoup is probably the nuts, its even better if sites let you scrap, then you just read the API and set up a connection to where it specifies. After Think Python read Dive into Python (also a free ebook), that should give you all the knowledge you'll need.

Probably one of the top 3 books you should read to understand equities is The Art of Short Selling.

I was going to make my own thread for this, but I think it could fit here. If I'm interested in learning as much as I can about business, economics, and investing, can I learn as much by just reading books and watching CNBC as I can by going to university for it? Or should I try to take some classes in university? Thanks for any help
