If you plot the 25 year chart for SPY, I think you'll see that equating this to gambling (aka a game of chance) is a silly thing to say. However if you plot SPY on some random 3-5 year part of the chart, yeah it's going to look gambly. So you already have your first answer to how to make this work to your benefit.

Next choose areas of growth, ETF's with low management fees and good liquidity, and you're starting to get somewhere.

I'm curious as to what your strategy is for these.

I'm a noob to investing. Not touching these. I recently learned about double and triple-leveraged ETFs, which is crazy enough. I googled to see if 4x existed and to my lolz the SEC approved the possibility not too long ago. Why not 5x too? 10x?

The fact that the symbols are going to be named UP and DOWN is hilarious to me. Like it's not even pretending this is the market on crack.

Vietnam has been privatizing a lot of companies recently.
Quote:
After 15 years of restructuring of state-owned enterprises, only 8 per cent of their capital has been privatised,
It seems they are on the track of opening up and becoming more free market. I saw on twitter this asia fund manager said 45 more companies are being privatized this year. I dug a little for a source on that but couldnt find one. Regardless, the government is making progress it appears to help the economy. The Vietnamese benchmark has outperformed its neighboring asia index. Haven't looked at valuations yet but I imagine they are competitive. There's a Vietnamese ETF VanEck Vectors ticker VNM

FWIW in my view this is good advice. There might be some research that states otherwise, not sure, but SPY should give you the best return for the risk taken. Put another way, you can be confident that SPY aligns with the efficient frontier.

People trade in the futures markets daily using much more leverage actually. They aren't inherently bad or anything like that. The belief is that they actually stabolize prices. Google futures and price stabilation if interested in the topic.

The difference is that futures generally aren't marketed to retail investors, whereas many of these leveraged etf's are. And they can be extremely damaging for a portfolio to hold over a medium to long period.
