I wouldn't classify myself as cheap or broke, just can't stand a bad deal with any services or products I use.

Obviously its great until you've had it for 2 years and have gone through all the good content, then you realize it isn't replenished fast enough to justify staying subscribed.
I think there's probably a good amount of corona burn through with people watching a lot more while stuck at home. In the end most Netflix content is B and C grade and you burn through it fairly quickly. Formulaic, low creativity, made to weakly hit the spot(s) they want to hit by churning out an algorithm rather than a creative high quality show. Compare with say HBO hits and you see how Netflix is just third rate trash. I recently dumped my subscription and see zero reason to go back. They're also going more woke, and woke = broke eventually, it destroys franchise interest and loses audiences over time.

Stock obviously had a huge boost from the pandemic, I wonder when it burns out. Winter looks like it's going to be fairly isolated so that's good for Netflix. I think when life gets back to normal in spring 2021 Netflix should take off the bubble it's added. Competitors are also improving and moving international.

I don't think anyone is more "woke" than HBO. But diversity is entertainment is here to stay I am afraid. You will be hard pressed to find anything new anywhere that doesn't feature gay or inter racial couplings as it now seems "required". There will always be at least one or more minority and gay lead character.

For me HBO sucks. I used to sign up one month a year just to binge everything I wanted to see but now they don't have anything to even tempt me into that. Netflix has converted me into a binge watcher so I would never wait around week after week to watch a whole show. I want it all there now so I can watch at my own pace. Netflix has an enormous bank of content with lots of new stuff coming at you all the time. But yeah, most of it sucks but there is so much there you can't help but find something you may enjoy. I have spent lots of time during the pandemic just grinding through Netflix and Amazon Prime. Prime seems to be a bit better quality but not nearly as plentiful as Netflix stuff.

I guess it all comes down to personal preference. I can typically find plenty to watch on either Netflix or Prime. These platforms are "sticky" though. Even if you only use them a little coupled with the reasonable pricing most people aren't going to dump.

I've found people that find the least amount of value are ones who only watch English speaking shows.

If you're willing to branch out and read sub titles there is quite a lot to be discovered.

Disney with quite the revision. Said their Dis+ forecast is going from 60-90MM to 230-260MM subscribers.
Disney CFO says Dis+ has more subs without kids, than with kids

mods - I'm fine with changing "Netflix" to "OTT Streaming" in the title

People that consume a lot of non-local content are more likely to be trendsetters that disproportionately impact the brand.
Squid Game (and to a lesser extent Lupin) seems to be a great example for this thesis on Netflix - their commitment to being competitive in international markets by investing in local production, rather than simply hoping that American, Hollywood-type content works everywhere, is going to be a strong moat for them in the long run, as they can squeeze more user value out of premium content than anyone else in the world.

This isn't something that's entirely lost to the other streaming services at the executive level - Disney+ and HBO Max are starting to ramp up their investment in content overseas, though they are way behind Netflix - but it's something a lot of Americans don't realize when they declare, based on their unsophisticated viewing habits, that Disney+ or HBO Max have a much better catalog or are somehow better at creating and curating high quality content. Part of the issue is that a lot of people are comparing HBO's best shows over the past 20 years with Netflix's best shows over the past 5 years, but part of it is that people are missing that Netflix's catalog is far more eclectic and diversified, while Disney's and HBO's tend towards bland shows with mass appeal in the west.

The hype on Squid games is unreal, going to have to give it a watch.
