Netflix had nothing to do with Roma beyond purchasing the distribution rights lol. How does Roma's success reflect on Netflix because of that?

Because no other streaming service has done this with a critically acclaimed movie that in the past would have always been a traditional theatrical release. ? Is it really that “lol”?

Its a Netflix original film.

Reality is that even cable companies don't care about cable TV. The new cable business is your Internet cable, not your TV cable, and they are crushing it. It's very high margin, low turnover.

And when net neutrality eventually gets crippled, cable companies will thrive even more.

I'm not sure how anyone can make a case that Hulu, Prime, or anyone else is producing more quality content than Netflix. Of course there's tons of crap, but it still seems like Netflix is the best.
The best content creating machine is Youtube. There are thousands of channels cultivating massive audiences and actually creating new legit stars.

It is a real moat and it is getting stronger with better channel monitization and audience development tools. I ditched Netflix and Prime a few years ago and stick to Youtube for the niche-interest channels I love. And ironically, I'm going back to the movie theater as a social experience. Movie theaters are changing also and trying to become a destination with VIP-cinema perks.

Ultimately the future has to be something like Spotify - a single platform and monthly fee with every show and movie ever made. This is in a way what torrenting currently approximates.

Subscribing to multiple streaming services and still not being able to watch everything you want when you want is going to be a huge pain point that surely will eventually be solved.

There are dozens of android streaming apps that play from File Lockers available now which basically give you that for free.

As you said, people who care about that have torrents.

I mean, they already are more aggressive, where not using a VPN to torrent will get you cease and desist letters. Maybe they don't "disappear", but I could see it reaching a point, sooner than later, where you have to take drastic steps that only niche users would be willing to do .

On YouTube; I personally use it almost exclusively for my viewing needs. I bought a new TV when I moved in here and spent a few months enjoying the krisp 4k, but then the novelty wore off and I'm back using YouTube again. Like most things on the internet, it really shines with a specific idea in mind with the topics you want to view. Once you know that you can dig into the plethora of content providers to find the one that brings you the most viewing satisfaction. There are probably thousands of video game reviewers, for example, and I've got about 3 that I watch regularly. Same thing with music, weight lifting, rock climbing, movie reviews, cooking, etc etc. It really allows the best experience, in my opinion.

I do think that it is still aimed at children in general, but i've heard great things about YouTube TV, and seen positive results on different RED series. I haven't encountered anyone else who watches YouTube like I do, it is mostly just spot watching. I think you do have kids getting older who grew up on YouTube and that will be the potential base for all these more "adult" expansions. Just another player in the market I guess.

The biggest issue I have with Youtube is - they make it way to hard to curate your show list and they don't allow the user enough access over their recommendation engine which is crap.

But I tend to watch youtube the most out of any streaming channel given I've put a lot of effort into subscribing to channels with great content for all my different interests.

I would def choose YT over Netflix if forced to just have 1 channel and torrent everything else.

Private trackers for torrents are still relatively safe, then there's always usenet.

Disney+ launching November at 7$ a month, or annually at 70$. Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, ABC, Fox, ESPN, etc.. NFLX pumped close to ATH levels, June 200 2020 puts at $6. Still feels like there is time to wait and pick a spot over summer but it is getting close.

Agreed. The first evidence of subscriber contraction in the US is when they will tank. Market correction will do it too.

Disney's stated plan is a long term price war for subscribers. The big thing that Disney's massive offering at $7 does, apart from directly taking a heaps of subscribers, is to stop NFLX raising prices for years. Means more cash burn (they're already burning cash with a quasi monopoly) and no profitability in sight.

I subscribe to Netflix on and off and would dump that pure trash in a heartbeat for a proper digital streaming offering.

Very bullish on Disney. Ideally they can acquire 100% of Hulu but either way they'll crush it. The IP they control is priceless. Netflix has Stranger Things and that's about it.

Already have a decent position but wanna go all in more. LEAPs look reasonably priced.

What's the angle? Hype? Being very bullish on a company starting a long term price war undercutting their own content revenue seems ----EV fundamentally.

Just wondering if this is a fundamental play or if you're betting on a Netflix-like surge from dumb money as they start taking over the global streaming industry.

And if you're bullish on Disney, why aren't Netflix LEAPS puts the better play? If Disney takes a small fraction of their subscribers - let alone enough for you to be bullish on Disney - the Netflix growth story is dead and they'll go under $100 rapidly.

Netflix at 133 P/E as a giant competitor with a better offering and deep pockets wanting a prolonged price war has laid out their plans. Hard to see how this survives at >$200 over the next year. Short time here at $361.

Yeah, I'd generally agree that it's time to get in on some Netflix shorts for 6-18mo out. Lots of maturing competition and new players reaching the space

6 months before Netflix enters terminal US decline on a big scale - for a company that's done nothing but grow rapidly for years. Disney are rolling out international before 2021 as well, and they kick the **** of Netflix, having content and even 24/7 local channels and local expertise in many major markets. Netflix is massively overpriced as a near monopoly...lol @ at anyone thinking this will be above $100 in 2020.

Easy money. Puts 8 bagger from open already. Shame about market all time highs with a momentum name like this - it would tank 10+% in a bad market - but this is the kind of stuff that gets you paid...still plenty to run and time to short. Anyone who isn't functionally ******ed is exiting their long here.
