For the record...I still hate this allocation so much, lol. Posting again hoping you will reconsider.

#1 - The Dow is the dumbest thing ever. I would never tell someone to buy an index based on the Dow and you're saying 50%? Why?

[Edit - for your reading pleasure...here's why I say this: https://www.kiplinger.com/article/in...mb-index.html]

#2 - IMO, this is way too low of an exposure to International equity.

#3 - This is a pain in the ass to rebalance.

#4 - Just buy VTI & VXUS. Make your life soooo much easier and get tons more diversification because of it.

All of my advice can be worthless if you have a good reason for this allocation. Would love to hear why you like this allocation if so.

I've been thinking about this for a bit, and I can think of a possible valid reason to have this allocation: It makes perfect sense if an evil genius has threatened to murder his loved ones if he doesn't keep half of his money in the DJIA.

More importantly and it is going to be really hard for someone who doesn't get why the DJIA is a poor choice (or why SPY and VTI are virtually identical) (or why dividends aren't the cat's meow or even slightly desirable) to stick with ANY allocation at the first sign of trouble. Not having even a rudimentary understanding of the basics of asset allocation is unlikely to be paired with a great understanding of how to behave as an investor when shtf.

I've been coming to better appreciate the "tough love" posts such as the above. If I'm making a mistake I'd rather hear the harsh unfiltered truth from such posts where people are borderline insulting; some of the best advice is given without filters.

It isn't meant to be insulting at all. Not knowing stuff isn't a character flaw. Not even knowing where to start is exactly where we all are when we want to start learning about a subject.

I just find it more enjoyable to try to be silly when I write. Imagining a valid thesis for buying the DJIA is kind of fun.

He could be a WSJ editor. Or perhaps he works for the WSJ and their 401k plan forces him to dedicate his money to the DJIA only.

Have to agree with everyone on all of this. The crowd is super right this time.

lol all good bro; your "evil genius" post certainly doesn't read as mean-spirited. I intentionally labeled your post as "tough love" and saved the description "borderline insulting" as describing my own (new) personal preference for learning.

OP: I know it's only been three days since your last post ITT, but now do you tend to agree with others' thoughts on your proposed allocation %s and the role of dividends?
