Is it common for schools to call you after you've started your application but before it's finished?

Really want to, but our classes restart next week. If you or anyone else plays, be sure to post updates on how soft the field is...

I have friends who went to it for a few years (I never made it, sadly). Apparently the field is pretty soft. Very aggressive though - pretty much the MBA type-A stereotype. Check-raise your way to victory!

Would you recommend someone to go into a MSc in financial mathematics instead of a MBA? I have a master in chemical engineering and I'm looking into possible career paths.

My dad went to INSEAD for a MBA, he has nothing but good to say about it. Very good alumni network.

Nerve-wracking next 10 days. Will make a big update once I have heard everything. I have a lot to say about the whole process and will try and sit down and formulate some thoughts for anyone who is thinking of applying next year, and for anyone else who is interested in reading. It has been a lot more work, and much tougher than I imagined at the beginning but I am still slightly optimistic that things will work out. GL to anyone else still waiting for decisions.

No, assuming you want to work in finance, I'd recommend you go get an MBA. A lot of people in MBA programs already have master's degrees or engineering backgrounds. So you should fit right in.
For me, a financial mathematics MSc is pretty much only if you know you want to do quant banking or get a PhD down the road....

not necessarily. it really depends on where he wants to go and what path in finance he wants to take. MBA is certainly better if he wants to break into IBD, but i don't think its as clear cut for other roles. probably best to network, speak with people in the industry. ideally people who are either at the firms that you are interested/roles that you'd like to do and point blank ask them what would maximize your chances of breaking through. if you don't know anyone - consider buying a linked premium account and cold-message people asking for advice.

you won't hear back from some, but from the ones you do hear back, you build a connection and get an accurate answer.

Good Luck and when it is over I would love to hear your thoughts, as I am thinking of applying next year.

accepted to YaleSOM, NYU and CBS, dinged by HBS and Wharton w/o interviews.

applying was a pretty long and toiling process, definitely wouldn't want to go through it again. it was pretty interesting though, looking back, the fact that for the first time in my life I had to put the brakes on and sum up all my life's accomplishments and experiences as well as map out most of my immediate future, all in concise little essays, all to be put under the microscope by prying eyes.

future is looking good though. MBA is where its at.
