You could have just typed "business people" and not needed to add an aside.

Not sure about the qualifications but I'm sure something could be worked out.
If that's true and there's nothing I'm missing about the cops and random administrators on that website making 400k, that makes me sick. Do the low-class leftists attending all the riots know about this? It'd be nice to see the political rage directed at some actual corrupt actors rather than just smashing public property and private businesses.

Damn you're right, there's such a bias against men in the media and popular culture. I don't know how we survive in this society.

I think most of those who are ultra successful in a short period of time either created a product/service, or are in sales. Essentially you need to create your own path to have quick success - even with that said you need to get extremely lucky to have 1m in 5 years.

yeah, people who do sales for enterprise software make a killing when they succeed, six figure bonuses on 7 figure contracts not out of the ordinary

If it's "all or nothing"...I'd buy real estate and lever to the moon!!! Probably have to bird dog a few deals to get some working capital (or just borrow from friends if that's allowed).

Or if I no lifed it I "might" be able to do it in vending (assuming no pandemic/everything is normal...I'd hit the million by selling the business on year 4 day 364 to get that last boost, obviously never paying taxes)

Something that was pointed out that I learned about myself is I'm super good at doing repetitive boring things for cash (and not deviating, not tilting, etc. etc.).

Example: How to get rich in real estate: (most people quit on steps 4/5 or never are actually serious in the first place and are just mentally masturbating)

Step 1.) Find/save/earn capital (work door dash, get a **** job, save from a good job, grind some poker, etc.).
Step 2.) Find someone to borrow from (could be a bank, family member, friend, hard money lender, owner finance etc.)
Step 3.) Find out what "x house" or "x apartment building" is worth. (looking at comps, visiting houses for sale then seeing what they actually sold for, learn the local cap rates, etc.)
Step 4.) Find places for sale OR places that the owner didn't even think they'd be willing to sell but are. (lots of times landlords in markets like now skyrocketing would sell if they knew how much they could get)
Step 5.) Make low offers.
Step 6.) Buy only GREAT deals starting out, good deals as you're more experienced.
Step 7.) Fix up that great deal by myself, working insane hours.
Step 8.) Lever that **** and hope you don't run out of time, lol.

To answer the spirit of the question though it'd be a little different for me (if I went busto how would I become a millionaire again)...I'd grind a little poker with a borrowed bankroll (playing lots of live, some online. I have a great reputation and great friends so I'd easily be able to have a staking deal)

Then I'd take some winnings and buy vending machines. Building a vending business during slow poker times (like Tuesday mid day). Once I built up enough money and a stable vending business I'd borrow money and buy apartment buildings. Except this time I wouldn't go low income like I have now, I'd go middle income tenants. Less crime, less drama, lower returns, but it'd be worth it imo.

If you're familiar or willing to commit time to learning programming it can be very lucrative. If you're very talented you can end up as a junior dev at FAANG earning 6 figures in salary on top of RSUs. Or take a shot at a startup and hope to win the IPO lottery.

Spend a weekend trying to build and deploy a website from scratch. No really. Treat it as a project where you don't know how to do a lot of things and your job is in part to learn how to find the answer (google, stackoverflow, official documentation). You're going to run into different issues like setting up your environment correctly, how to handle version control to send code to a remote server, or how to get your browser to display "Hello World". If going through this doesn't discourage you and you still find it interesting then great!

I'd recommend these resources to start

Play around with Ruby. It's a very forgiving and easy to learn scripting languages. There's a bunch of good resources here. Use what works for you and skip what doesn't. https://github.com/appacademy/test-first-ruby

This repo has some basic exercises where you have to write code to make tests pass.

Play around with Ruby on Rails. It's a framework in Ruby to build websites really quickly. https://www.railstutorial.org/book and https://guides.rubyonrails.org/getting_started.html

Learn SQL. https://sqlzoo.net/ It's a querying language for databases. This is an exercise based tutorial. I recommend this because everything on Earth and enterprise software uses a databases. It's like knowing how to use Microsoft Word or Excel.

FYI - This absolutely doesn't do justice what you need to know to pass a phone screen, on-site interview, or the day to day. This is more an alternative to thinking you need to watch an intro CS course on youtube to get started.

It's already hard to imagine some random nobody like myself saving 100k in 5 years. 1 million would be absolutely impossible, except for the very lucky ones, genetically or practically. Doing crime would be pointless as the average guy would be immediately caught stealing something bigger than a chocolate bar. Most people had some kind of interest to study for the job they have. If they didn't, then that means that job is easy to do and doesn't pay enough to make a million in 5 years. Suddenly forcing yourself to study some complicated stuff like trading just in the hopes of succeeding and finding work is just hard too hard to believe. The easiest and most reliable way is sex work. Just suck 10 dicks a day. Being a woman would help a lot in that field.

To answer op's question I would spend 5 years trying to find the basement.

I dunno what the full answer to this question is, but the learn SQL / move to the Bay Area / get a $110k/yr job / live in a cheap place with roommates in San Bruno, Hayward etc. seems like a good first step

EDIT: Probably post-pandemic you can even do this remote and live in a shithole in South Carolina or something, that's obv even better

"Sorry mom, impossible." So that's it, not even a gig job to buy lottery tickets to give your poor mom a ray of hope? Nah. If the op's hypothetical wasn't hypothetical, pretty sure everyone itt would come up with something viable, including you.
