some people might play poker, shoot pool (billiards), sports etc at a friends place and split the tab on a 6 or 12 pack of beer/wine bottle. Some days drink water or tea or whatever instead. And only a couple times a week go 'out' w friends. The main issue with this working is living within ones means and budgeting and hopefully saving some every month.
So bottom line the lifestyle would be frugal but possible for someone who can learn how to budget and price shop and can pick up sports hobbies/low cost hobbies like tennis which is fairly low cost. My uncle played tennis into his late 60s.
I almost had to switch because I think the risk of going into debt if a chronic illnesss or major health problem came about would not make it work but again even with that it is possible if enough can still be saved monthly. it's all about living within the budget and moving to a cheaper city if need be to accomplish it. I think 1.5 mil ish would be more preferable though...
